Please pay attention: there is currently only ONE version of Ron’s image: Rev09. Any reference to Rev02 is a typo. Please search this page with over 750 posts before asking anything: most likely you will find your answer..
Ron has created an image of his Tiny XP installation customized for the Acer Aspire One and includes all the specific drivers, fan control software and Office. Ron’s image and the necessary tools can be found at this torrent: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4670099/Ron_s_TinyXP_image_for_Aspire_One.
Install instructions are posted after the break, but are also included in the archive.
Password of the rar files is Ron[nl].

The megaupload link will soon expire. Ron has decided not to renew this link and feels that all issues about this image has been discussed in these comments before. I’m sure you can find the image through other resources on the internet! The comment section will stay open.

Does this image have EWF setup already or not?
(I’d prefer not)
Hi Ron,
Forgive me for my ignorance, i’m not sure how to use megaupload password.. pls guide me.
Thanks in advance.
Thank You!
Thanks for this excellent image!
No EWF or BWFB Supported. It found it not neccesary because this install is speedy enough even with Kingstong Internet Security 9 installed and running all the time (180 free trial)
And I’m happy to receive many positive responses for this image. I’m working on the same achievement for Vista, but due to time it takes longer than expected. I still believe XP is the way to go on the AAO (when not using Linux or OS X). The eye candy of Vista can be achieved on XP as well with free pakages like Vistamizer or good themes for XP.
But it’s a challenge to get VISTA running with good speed on a AAO with SSD..hehehehehe
Just installed, runs like a dream. you have to try this!!!! cheers Ron Very Very Please.
Thanks Wayne, glad I could point you to the right way of a happy XP user on AAO.
Can someone please reupload the file on Rapidshare?
I can’t download from Megaupload in my country
Does this image work on SSD drives only? or can it work on HDD? Is there a streamlined version of Vista available for HDD?
I used FAT32 on my 4GB usb flash disk instead of FAT. No problems. Installed perfectly!
Thanks
@Tord…Others also managed to install it on a hard drive.
Does this work on AA0-150-X?
Excellent Image… installed and works great…
But.. Outlook 2003 cannot send or receive emails on POP3 accounts…. anyone else had this problem?
Hi Ron this is an excellent image I have one problem though.
I’m unable to use my 3G modem as I get some strange errors, I searched the net and it seems I need modem support hope you can help.
Mark
“TINYXPAAO.GHO is broken.”
Is there a way to use a download manager with megaupload?
My internet connection has broken down 3 times and I had to restart the download. Been trying for a week now to get this file.
@BFin..You tried Windows Update? It should work fine with POP3 and MSN/Hotmail as well.
@Jack..most probably something went wrong with your download.
@mark…I answered your pm on the forum…maybe you can pm me your log with the errors and I will take a deeper look into that in a week or so.
@Stefan….I believe there is one from MU to download on their website. If you have a premium RS acount take the links given earlier.
CAN YOU ANSWER MY QUESTION?
Your question had been answered one comment above your original question.. If you think you’ll get far in live with this kind of attitude, you’ll be unpleasantly surprised. – 2manydjs
Hello Ron,
I noticed that you have a new version REV 09. Are you going to make a new image clone of your disk with this new version? I’m not sure if the rev 02 has the sp3 included in it, am I wrong?
Thanks!
Hi Ron,
One more question. If I install your rev02 image, do I still need to disable the various options, like paging, D2D, or prefetch, etc. or will the image do all these things automatically. If not, is it possible that you can give me some advice as to how to configure the settings, in your experience?
Thank you!
David
Hi. This sounds like exactly what I need for my Aspire One 512MB, buit perhaps I could ask two questions:
Does it include regional, keyboard and language setting for the UK?
and
Can it be installed from disc?
Many thanks,
Bert Coules
Installed successfully on A0A-110 ![]()
Very speedy!
Thanks a bunch!
Just a note. To install Arabic language i had to get a copy of windows sp3 extracted onto a USB flash drive. Which wasn’t any problem at all.
This is working great so, very fast. only issue is I can’t install newer wmp or msn both say i need to update update fails or says no updates.
Well forget that last post, fixed it already. Thank you Ron for this saves me from upgrading to a HDD for now.
@David..My instruction says TinyXP rev 02…BUT it is TinyXP Rev 09!!! When I wrote the instruction I was also working on TinyVista REV 02. Maybe 2ManyDJs can mention this in the article. So This is the latest version!
All the tweaks are done and included, no extra work needed. Except disabeling D2D is done in the bios not in XP. The only tweak I didn’t do because it seems speedy enough was the EWF or BWFB one.
@Bert
There is only the US keyboard included. But with windows update you can change that. Windows Update works also with the included FireFox…google for the Add-On FireFox for |Windows Update and you’re on your way!
Yes you can do it from disc as well. Burn the image to the disc, but you need a bootable disc for ghost as well. But all the tools are included in the download to do it from a 1GB usb stick!.
@Rami & al
Glad you managed as well and join the happy users
….As mentioned earlier…just enable windows update in FireFox. It can always be handy to have the windows update at hand. image.
@ al…..FYI there is a driver available for the left SD driver that makes a SDHC card additional Hard disk space that works also in XP!
Ron,
Many thanks for the reply and info.
Bert
Cheers Ron!
Thanks for all the info!
David
Hi Ron,
About the SDHC additional HDD. Where can I find this driver? Is it just one file that installs automatic, or do I have to follow some steps manually?
Cheers,
David
@all……Old Bios v3109
Ppl asking for this Bios often. Therefor I did upload a rar with everything needed to flash your bios to v3109.
I reflashed because my AAO didnt boot anymore on v3114. Since my reflash I had not problem what so ever anymore. With flashes of bios I recommend dont try to fix what isnt broken. So I wont flash anymore till it will give me advantages.
here the link for Bios v3109:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0X6WIQ7D
@David
The driver for de SDHC isnt installed by me so far. It’s not clear if yes or no some registry edits are needed. I will test that later after I bought myself a SDHC card and will post the results.
If en when it seems to work fine on this TinyXp I will upload the files and short instruction to get it working,
I am really sorry about my comment above. I was really pissed yesterday. But I REALLY am SORRY!
peace
pGhi
Thanks Ron!
Possible silly question…why are there 5 RAR files? Are all of the *.GHO files the same?
Thanks!
@Susan… I guess you have to unpack them with winrar to one folder and there you can find those 3 files
Hi Ron!
Can you tell me how I can install language pack to Windows because we have a few letters that doesnt exist in English so it would help me alot!
Thanks for advance!
pGhi
@pGhi,
Well, that is what I did, but there all five of the archives include the same TINYXPAAO.GHO file and the winrar program asks me if I want to overwrite the previous version. Maybe it’s me, but that seems a little odd.
@susan
no worries just unrar the first one, winrar will auto unrar all the parts into one folder.
Ron did you have any issues downgrading your bios? I want to go back to 3109.
@al
Thanks! Worked great.
Just a quick way to format usb stick to FAT; for those who are having trouble doing this in windows xp (i.e. myself lol)
just type format /FS:FAT x: (in DOS)
replace x with the drive letter and windows will format the device without any issues.
David
@pGhi…you can do that with Windows Update……..Windows Update can be done with FireFox as well!!!….google for the add on…..Firefox and widows update.
@Susan…..I had 5 files uploaded to Rapidshare when questions came for MegaUpload and Rewindlab told me I can upload files as big as 1GB to MU…..as free user you can doownload thatas well…..so I just put the 5 files in 1 file.
@Al no I did the downgrade as well, came from 3114, which delivered me a “dead” AAO….reflashed back to 3109 and no problems since anymore.
Ron
Great stuff. I am absolutely pleased with it. You should open a forum so that we can help each other with problems.
How do I change the dutch words (e.g. when you hover over the time at the bottom right) to english?
Also how can I change to german keyboard? I have an english system put as I am german I type with my keyboard set to german. I tried the firefox extension but it only works with older versions, I have 3.0.3.
Last question: can I make my own ghost image with that version of ghost from the rar files ?
@Stefan….no forum I stay faithfull to this blog of 2manydjs
Change the set location of your settings from NL to US/UK for your clock.
Wel to change your keyboard..Widows update is the easiest and best way. I geuss you have to wait for a newe update of the add-ons….or install a lower version of firefox again…it is not that much mb to download and a lot better than to download IE!
Yes you can make your own Image with that ghost version…my image was made with it as well
Thank you Ron.
I tried to install AVG antivirus but it fails due to “unsupported windows version”. As I don’t have an external cd rom I can’t use my full xp version to add to tiny xp. Same problem with trying to install my MDA Touch as a USB modem. A driver is missing and I can’t install it. Any ideas?
Hiya Ron,
I’ve got a question about the mouse pad. I noticed that sometimes when I press on it, some icon appears. Did you install some special feature for the mouse, if so is there a manual on how to use it (e.g. scrolling).
Cheers!
David
Wifi problem Fixed! (wifi dropping issues)
If anyone is having problems with their wifi. (i.e. myself) I fixed it by downloading this driver: WLAN_Atheros_v7.6.1.149. (from the acer site) and install both the driver AND the software. The driver alone will not make it better. It also seems to download faster! The software itself gives u the ability to make different profiles (uni, home, work, etc) and can also set the power save on/off etc, it’s great! oh it will show in the system tray though, but only as a connection bar, so not so intrusive!
hope this helps someone!
cheers!
David
The mousepad of the AAO is unfamiliar terrain for me
. So I cant realy help you on that. I noticed that the pad moves fast sometimes and click when you do not expect it….Doing some adjustments in control panel….mouse settings….made it or me some better. On the forum I saw a post about making the mousepad scrolling with 2 fingers…it is under the windows software section.
@Stefan…..dont use AVG my experience is that it slows the AAO down o much….I use Kingston Internet Security (the free trial is 180 Days!!!!!!!) and it is the fastest and best one I used so far….It is also based on Kaspersky I think, not sure.
About the MDA I dont have any clou
….but did you tried windows update when the MDA is attached? You googled fot the right driver for the MDA?….XP sp3?
Anyway to get this running of the usb thumbdrive.
Hi Ron
Had really decided to give up my linpus ao for a new windows model. but your image gave it new life. Instructions where excellent. Thank you so much.
Best regards
Anders
@James…??????????..sorry don’t understand what you try to say or ask
@Anders….welcome to the happy XP AAO users and its all my pleasure to be helpfull.
greetz Ron
Sorry, was wondering if it is possible to install the image onto a USB thumb drive and run windows off that instead of the SSD. I tried and it just gives a the blue screen of death when it loads.
Hi Ron,
Thanks for the work. It is awesome.
Got a guestion here, I tried to install Asian language support, however, I got a warning message and unable to complete the task.
Just wondering if you’ve disabled the support of other languages.
Has anyone run into the same problem?
thanks a lot.
vwang
@ James…..I’m affraid it won’t, it’s not a “live” version.
@vwang….read above, I’ve answered this one enough for now….1 hint….windows update!
Thank you Ron!!
Highly recommend this to anyone who has any doubts, the whole process took less than half an hour from starting the instructions to posting this!
Had the nLite installed as per the instructions on the EEE use forum but this seems even better.
Thanks again for a great Image
after i chose the default in unibootin, i got an error saying cant find the image file : ubninit…. please help me
@ Wong, I had the same problem at first. You need internet connection when creating the boot USB (step 1), otherwise it will just create an empty file (ubninit).
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
David
hi 2 all, thanx ron for the image, works great onto a 110l with italian language package!
wanna now if there’s is the hibernation and how 2 enable it!
) thanx
@stefano…..START -> CONTROL PANEL -> POWER OPTIONS -> TAB HIBERNATE.
thanx a lot ron! uh-oh, to me it’s very slow because i have 1.5 gb of ram..
ron will you slim down also vista? cuz im planning to add a 4200 rpm 30 gb hard drive and wanna now if you’ll make another ghost image!
THANKS A LOOOOT! italy’s proud of your work!
i’ve changed my mind, after some hibernation it really helps speedin up, in fact now it takes approx 40 secs to shut down and 20 to turn on (ron’s xp pro with office 2007 & eset nod32 3.x)
@Stefano
I have TinyVista image running on FAT32!!! but I’m not completely satisfied to upload the image. And oday I’ve decided to stop with that project!….waiting for the more promising Windows 7. But with your new HDD you can install Vista without a problem. I will make a new XP install and tweak it a little more and add some more apps and make SDHC seen as HDD as well try to make it readboost.
For the eyecandy (vista) I will make it look like Vista or OS X…not sure yet which one.
Hi!
Everything went fine for me but i cant run windows update. It fails on the genuine advantage download. Therefore i cant install the portuguese keyboard layout.
I already installed the firefox windows update add on…
Can someone help me?
Thanks!
ok ronnie, thankx a lot!
after running this for a few days it has really slowed down. it now cannot keep up with me typing, opening a new website the computer freezes for a few seconds (page loads but I can’t scroll or type) it is still usable just very annoying.
Hi
Trying to install Rons tiny Xp
having a problem
I get as far as booting off the USB it comes up with Default I press enter go to the next screen select option one
go the A prompt change to C:
thats Ok
then enter ghost and get told \bad command or File name
I think I did all the setup Ok, so confused as to why I can’t launch the program
Any help most appreciated
Ian
Hi Ron, may i know what are the tweaks that u’ve done with the XP
i’va already installed XP n some other things, but i’m not really interested in using EWF, so if you say the tweaks that u’ve made is enough, then may i know what are those…
thanks
@Ian…did you copy ghost.exe to the flashdrive? or type “dir” the [enter]…it should show the content of the flashdrive…if not then it should be an other drive lik d: e: or so. The bad command just is because you enter ghost.exe in a ditectory where ghost isnt in.
@nuno…..did you updated FireFox to a newer version like 3.0.4? there you find more problems to update even with windowsupdate add on. The quick and dirty way to solve is just google for IE 6 and use it for updating…To make it work in FireFox 3.0.4 try to also use add-on IE Tab…and changes several options in FireFox….and google can help you most probably when errors, and there will be, occurs.
@al….cant help you with the problems you mention…it is to difficult to see what you all do on your machine, what you have installed etc…..If you have surfed a lot try tweaking firefox more so it doesn’t use caching, temp files and so on.
But it looks like you have installed a program or service (maybe anti-virus) which eat al the reading/writing speed from an to the SSD. Not heard of it before though.
@Kei…that is way to much work to name and explain them all…..just google to speed up and tweak XP….you will find a lot of them….then with try and error you can do all tweaking you like.
@NUNO……get IE 7 from the link….you dont have to install IE at all then….just run it….when running type in address bar ie. http://www.msn.com……when page loaded…..go to tools….then windows update…..should work now!
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=43IEW8SP
Hi Ron thanks for the Info
Still having some Problems. When I format the USB I’m given the EXFAT or FAT 32 tried it in EX FAT but the Acer running Linux doesn’t recognize the USB, it does if i Format in FAT 32.
I managed to get Ghost to load got as far as the Setup everything going well about 15 % in get an error message Integrity error or somethin like that.
Any ideas ?
Regards
ian
@ ALL….I made it easy for you all to install UK keyboard layout. I downloaded the neede DLL and made a REG file:
Steps:
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=FIBI5JBQ
2) put “KBDUK.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click UKLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
David pls a message if this worked for you!
Thanks Ron, I am having a look around this thing tonight to see what is slowing it down. just got a class 6 SDHC so I may look into using that to help speed it up. as for installed programs all I did was added msn and mapped two network drives everything else is just like your image.
IT WORKS!!!!
THANKS A MILLION RON!!
WOW! I’ve been trying to do this for days!
yea! yea! yea!
You’re the best!
@al……those 2 mapped network drives are indexing all the time?
@David fine it worked….need to get the right DLL and right settings for the reg and the n easy done!…..well glad it worked for you.
@ALL…made the Portugues (Portugal) keyboard Lay-out as well:
Steps:
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QPCUNW8C
2) put “KBDPO.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click PortuguesPortugalLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
Nuno pls a message if this worked for you!
Ron, mapped drives disconnected and it still slow well I shouldn’t say slow more like freezing for a second or two then works great until I open something new then it freezes again. but when it is not frozen it is fast.
Thanks a MILLION Ron!!!
Worked PERFECTLY!!!!! Cannot thank you enough!!!
And thanks for ALL your work! Your work is easily THE BEST for the Aspire One!
Ron, one thing i forgot to mention. The keyboard layout changes worked PERFECTLY, but the windows update error continues.
I´ve downloaded IE7 portable edition you gave me and followed all your instructions but to no avail.
However, i don´t need windows update anymor, since i already fixed the keyboard!!!
Still got to fix that litlle 3 seconds freeze once in a while…
After 4 hours my cpu temp is 54ºc and the fan is 66ºc. Is this ok? I never had any software like this so i don´t know if this is normal or to hot. What do you say?
Again, thanks!
@ Nuno…I wonder why those 3 seconds freezes happens….not had that experience myself…..
1) Did you changed from FAT32 to NTFS?
2) Did you disable D2D in your Bios!!!!!!!!!!
The cpu temperature sound fine to me,,,no problemo!
greetz Ron
Ron,
I didn´t change to NTFS and i didn´t disabled D2D in Bios (don´t even know how to do that).
The slowdown doesn´t occur when im earing music or watching a movie. It´s when im doing regular stuff on pc: writing a document, opening a folder, navigating in the web… things like that.
I only have 512 RAM… maybe that´s the problem… however the computer it´s really fast when it´s not freazing.
Nuno
Hi Ron, I have the same problem as Nuno, but I assumed that its because I still have a 512 ram. Did not upgrade yet, thats why i’m not worried about the freeze.
Nuno do you have 512 ram as well? Ron has 1536 ram, so maybe that is why we get that 3 sec freeze.
Ron, what do you think?
Cheers,
David
Nuno…when booting hit F2 to enter the bios…under a tab (think “main”) you’llfind D2D….disable that save and reboot…..I’m sure you will be faster and am curious if this will stop your 3sec freezes. Anyhow disabling D2D is a MUST!
More RAM would definately help……but can you describe the freeze?…maybe it’s just the time needed to start the application
Oops instead of adjusting my message I posted it ![]()
Don’t need to describe David…see it’s the same as with Nuno.
I bet it has to do with D2D…..it seems will writing doc or something like that it makes a “temp file” or back up and write that to the SSD.
Ron,
Thanks for the instructions on disabling D2D. I´ll do that tomorrow (my girlfriend is in Amsterdam with the Aspire until tomorrow!).
I guess it´s that temp file thing, not the launch of programs because usually they launch VERY quickly!
Great blog and great work Ron! Thanks a million!
Hi Ron, I have already disabled the D2D, so I dont think its that.
Mine freeze when I open a firefox, when trying to type an address, it freezes for a shor while then continues, but I thought it was because of the low ram I had.
I did not understand what you ment with the temp file, and yes like Nano when opening a program its quick, its just when you take an action it hangs for a while.
Thnks,
David
Guys….I mean with temp files….the caching from firefox…..David when only with FireFox it most probably is yout firewall/internet connection. Can’t imagine it is your RAM.
Im using windows firewall only (dont even have anti-virus installed yet).
I also put cache space at 0 in firefox, so it doesn´t caches any web pages, but to no avail.
I still haven´t disabled D2D (don´t have aspire with me until tomorrow).
I´ve noticed that the paging file of RAM is set to 0, so there is no paging file. I alway´s thought that having a big paging file helped to speed up th PC´s. Am i incorrect here?
Hi Ron,
I don’t think its either of them. At the moment I’m using windows firewall and no antivirus software. My internet connection is 8mb, I normally download at around 800 kbps MAX. So I dont think its that either. Yesterday I did another clean install of your image, and I still get the same problem.
Do you think I should move my temp files, etc to an sdhc card (as a HDD)? Or do u have any other suggestions?
Thanks,
David
(continue)
Oh btw, like Nano, I’ve also have VPN connection and Mapped 1 Drive, but they dont auto connect. They are offline by default. So I don’t think its that.
this is awesome! i hope there’s a way to dual boot between tinyxp and linpus lite. T_T
i hope you could help me with this, ron.
please let me know ron if it is going to be possible. it would be briliant.
Hi Ron,
Let me start by saying “Thank you thank you thank you”. And by the way – thank you ! Just gave this a try on my Aspire One 1GB RAM 120GB HDD Linux machine, and so far it works like a charm. I don’t want to get carried away just yet, but if it keeps up like this I owe you big time. I bought an Aspire with Linux, but quickly found it to be rather less than desirable, to put it as politely as I can. I gave your XP a go and I am in love with my Aspire One all over again. Superb.
Just one question. How do I change the keyboard to German ? I will follow the tip you gave for maing it Portuguese and see if other languages are bundled, and if not I hope you can point me in the right direction.
Once again, absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for this. My Aspire was a total waste of money with Linux on it, and now you have given me a working machine that seems to function on so many more levels than it ever did with Linux on it.
Cheers,
Simon.
@jhedrotten…yes it’s possible TinyXP is like a normal XP install…just stripped and tweaked….so multi boot is possible
@Nuno…because you use SSD paging file is not wise…to much writing to the SSD…Paging file is kind of back up to restore to an earlier point in XP. Takes t much resources on the SSD….when you use sd/SDHC card you can page on that. But not neccesary.
@David…..you can use ebooster with sd/sdhc card…..works like readyboost in Vista….meaning common used programs starts from there, temp file, documents etc goes to the card.
Sorry, just one more question I forgot, and this was also a problem when Linux was installed – my wireless connection on the Aspire will not connect to the internet when my other laptop is already connected. Do you know how to fix this ? I ask because my wife is sometimes on the other laptop, and I may like to also surf at the same time using the Aspire.
Cheers,
Simon.
@ALL…made the Portugues (Portugal) keyboard Lay-out as well:
Steps:
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=GHANJ05E
2) put “KBDFR.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click FrenchLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
Pachanka pls a message if this worked for you!
OOPS message above isnot Portuguese BUT FRENCH KEYBOARD
Hi Ron,
I am not sure if you mean my question about input languages, but I asked for German. Swiss German to be precise.
Anyway, any help much appreciated.
Simon.
@ Simon…..looks like an IP problem
1) You use same fixed IP# on both laptops?
2) Your Wireless router is set-up to dhcp? and not enough IP addresses to the network?
Both laptops need to have unique IP addresses in a network.
Or did your Aspire didnt get to Wireless connection at all?…then your router is most probably set up to accept wireless connection based on (also) mac addresses.
Anyhow this has nothing to do with this image…networking is based on DHCP…getting their IP# from the router/dhcp server
I work with 4 laptops wireless at same time (incl the AA1)
SWISS (GERMAN) KEYBOARD LAY-OUT
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=HCKC0TEW
2) put “KBxxx.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click xxxxxxxxLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
Simon pls a message if this worked for you!
Thanks a million Ron. I will give it a go now.
By the way, I was not saying that it was the fault of your image that my aspire didn’t connect. I was just wondering if anyone here could help. It does seem to half-connect to my network. It says connects to the WLAN but gives a message “Limited or no connectivity” with no internet connection.
Yeah seems you got a network (IP) problem just enable DHCP in Linpus and I bet the problem will be solved!
>>just enable DHCP in Linpus
I can say with a smile on my face that I won’t be enabling it in Linpus anymore. I am sooo happy that is now a horrible experience in the past. I won’t be going there again anytime soon, you can be sure of that.
And your Swiss German keyboard fix works like a charm. I wish I could buy you a beer or two for all this help you have given me.
CHEERS…..would love the beer!….with XP you still have the wireless problem?……then it is your wireless router settings…because dhcp is enabled in my image
I’m actually just about to try and Google how to enable DHCP in XP.
OK. Seems to work fine now. I read in another forum post to go to the advanced tab of the wireless network connection properties and enable “Allow other users to connect through this computers internet connection”, and I shut down wireless and restarted, and now I have internet pages. Excellent. Me happy.
You have no idea how happy it makes me feel to see XP running fine on my Aspire One. I’ve been kicking myself all week for buying one with Limpus on it.
Hello Ron,
Just a question about eBoostr. Do I have to make my sd slot HDD ready to work with the software or will it work just as it is?
David
@ David….as it is…yout left sd slot is SDHC ready
D2D off, caching off I am using the left card slot with a sdhc card in it and eboostr. i don’t see any improvements though I still have the freezing problem. either way i have decided that a 2 second freeze every now and then is better then fighting with linpus so I am not putting anymore time into finding the cause.
whoa that’s going to be awesome! if so, how do i do it? because i have installed a lot on my linpus lite and i do need linux for personal reasons but i also need xp for some compatibility issues. how does it work? do i just create a new partition on the SSD? and i do i choose which one to boot if so? does it have a bootloader like grub? i will really appreciate it if i could dual boot between your custom tinyxp and the default linpus lite on my machine. thanks in advance.
If you want to dual boot, you need a bootloader. But as I understand now…you want to keep your existing Linpus and put the XP image on a other partition.
I would advise you to install GRUB in linpus as bootloader.
@ AL I will reinstall the Image and go step by step installing software if its really annoying…..mine works flawless….or just wait for v2 i am working on and which I most probably will make available again…..will look lik vista as well.
Thanks Ron, I have it running ok now the freezing seems to only effect a hand full of us. now with temp/tmp/pagefile/firefox cache all running on sd and eboostr 2gig cache the freezing is minimal. I will definitely wait and install your V.2 as this image works far better then any other.
Hi Ron, I did the same as Al, and the freezing is still there but less. I will also wait for your v2.
Thanks,
David
please teach me how master ron. i would really appreciate it. thanks so much for your time.
i can make partition but i do not know how to make GRUB work or how to get it.
oh wait ron, to save you the hassle, i just thought of this one: is it possible if i just install your perfect image on my 8gb USB drive and then boot from there [using F2 in the splash screen] if I feel like booting XP? thanks. if that’s possible then excellent.
Hi Ron,
Thanks so much,
Is this work with 3305 bios firmware? and can install any application like itunes, games, etc without freezing SSD while writing, .
many thanks,
yes,Yes<yes….without freezing I don’t know
@ rotten…..try to put image back to the USB stick as you put the image back to the SSD……maybe it works well then.
has anyone tried doing it? installing your version on a usb flash disk?
you mean on step 23 of this guide, is should choose the desired usb pen drive instead os the ssd, is this correct?
Thanks Ron, i have an ext USB drive and worked fine under Xp now not recognized? both laptops are running Ver 09 fine, but now no USB drive mounted? Anyone seen this before?
i tried asking for help at aspireoneuser.com/forum if someone have already tried booting your version from USB flash disk. let’s see what we’ll find. hehehe. if i have 2 AAO-110, then i would have no problem since this release is already perfect for me.
@rotten…..no..yes….yeah:)
@Neil…weird problem..but try the following….right click on my computer—>manage—>disk management…see if you can give that usb drive an other drive letter.
oh so i’ll try on installing it on a usb flash drive then.
problem solved! drive had a bad mft….I used GETDATABACK v.3.50 to fix all is well….
Tried it on my AAO but I think I’ll go back to standard XP.
-Can’t install Swedish keyboard layout
-No automatic updates, my system is a sitting duck for when the next big security flaw in XP is detected. Regular Windows Update doesn’t work either, even when I tricked my system into running IE by typing http://www.windowsupdate.com into My Computer window.
-No easy way to launch IE, which is needed for some sites
-Had to spend a lot of time undoing tweaks that made the system annoying to use. Eg. no menu delay, no balloon tips, no User picture etc.
There’s probably more. Basically it’s quicker to install regular XP and do a few tweaks than to install this and undo lots of tweaks.
Yes Jimmy you should go back to the standard XP, will fit you better.
I have so comments on this image, I think Ron did a really good job. It is, ofcourse, not for everyone, but in my case, I wasn’t looking for a laptop replacement, that is why this image is perfect for me as it is. It is quick and easy to use and has everything I need to work with.
David
*so = no!
( I only wish there was a way I could easily edit my post lol)
TO RON(NL)
i have a EEE PC and i would like to install tinyxp rev.09 that i have as an iso. your rls is optimized for aspire one though….
can you give me instruction on how to turn this iso into a bootable usbstick?
@david…lol yeah I could use an edit tool here as well….thanks for your comments and your right this image doesn’t really works different from normal XP (working on that now). In general it’s for at least 95% compatible wit all windowsapps you like to use. If you want IE then get IE install and uninstall FireFox. But if you don’t want to be a sitting duck? DONT USE IE at all. And use a good Internet security suite! I do and I never update a thing when it’s working. No attacks/virusses/spam and so on on my AA1.
@xx the only optimizing for the AA1 are the drivers (EEEPC use somtimes the same). I didnt tried to make a bootable usbstick. But you could try to install the image like written in the instruction…Only choose instead c: drive you USBstick…It will install also the MBR on the stick….and maybe you’re lucky to boot from there. You need at least a 2GB stick!
Hi
thanks so much, works fine with me with 3305 firmware update and my only problem is its webcam,
i saw that it has acer web cam application but i can’t view the image,. and were it is,
thanks,
riyunikenshee
Hi,
thanks ,
hardware problem, now its working fine and great,
thanks,
more power.
Ron, I reloaded the image and have no freezing now so it was something I did. going step by step with things I need to try and find out what is bad.looking forward to V.2 thanks again.
Hi!
@ Ron: finally got my hands on the aspire and disabled D2D. It IS faster, but the freezing, although less, it´s still there.
Im gonna wait for your next image, i don´t want to bother you with this problem since only a few people have it.
Thanks so much for all your help.
@ Al:
You said “now with temp/tmp/pagefile/firefox cache all running on sd and eboostr 2gig cache the freezing is minimal”.
I also have a 8GB SD card in the left slot, but i have only 512 ram on my A110. Can i do what you did? If so, can you explain me how?
Thanks
@nuno I just reloaded the image and that freezing gone now. but I had used a driver i found on aspireuser forums to make the left card reader a fixed drive then manually moved my temp folders there, turned on page file for that drive and used a second SD card for eboostr 2 gig cache. but even with 1 gig of ram and all that done it was still slower then it is now with a fresh install of Rons image. everything I did I just copied it from other users on the forum there I really couldn’t write a step by step for you + it was alot of work for very little gain I would try and reinstall if I was you.
@Al:
Thanks for your response Al, if the steps you made solved the problem i would search all things and do it myself, but, as you, say, it was still slow, i guess i won´t do that.
A fresh install is easy, i would that, no problem. I remember i had a few different things on my install from the guide. The letter for the USB wasn´t C: but G: or B: (can´t remember exactly, BUT it wasn´t C:) and in this step:
“23) CHOOS LOCAL DESTINATION: select your SSD drive (part 2/size 7695) the hit [ENTER]“…. it wasn´t part2 either, it was part1 and i had NO OTHER OPTION. But it worked nonetheless and the only problem really is the 2/3 seconds lockup.
Maybe i´ll wait for ron´s next image to see if it solves the problem and mess around with this installation first.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for creating this, I had gotten quite frustrated with the Linpus OS and it’s limited abilities (even though I had been able to modify it quite a bit) but at the same time was stuck to it because of the “slow ssd” model I have. This version of XP really works perfectly, it’s very fast and gives me better battery-time than Linpus!
Hi Ron,
Just a question about formatting the USB memory stick to FAT.
What would actually happen if I use a FAT32 USB memory stick, the reason why i’m asking is, because I have a 8GB USB stick and it can’t format to FAT, cause the size is too big, so it only support FAT32.
I have installed the image, using the FAT32, and I was just wondering, if this may be affect the speed of the AAO? dunno no.
Thanks,
David
Hi Ron
I have formatted the usb as per your instruction.
When I boot the AAO I get to the page where I can select defualt. Once I select it I get a message saying missing file UBNINIT. I have browsed the usb stick and the file is there.
Hey Ron, I just got around to flashing my BIOS back to 3109. the rar file that you posted here has a file in it called “ZD5_3109.fd” this needs to be “ZG5_3109.fd”
@David….I will nt effect the speed on the AA1….The image is not dependable on the usb stick or device it comes from. The imge depepends on getting ghost working no matter how…I had same problems with a 4 gb stick….couldnt boot from FAT32 stick with the tools I’ve supplied.
@Brad….when you used the tool to put FreeDos on the stick…you had Internet connection? It gets the file live from internet. And you used FAT and not FAT32?…It should work unless the stick isn’t bootable…then you need the tool from HP to make it bootable…her a link to a nice and short tutorial http://www.victorchen.info/create-a-bootable-usb-memory-stick/
Just my two cents:
i used a 8GB usb stick, and i formatted it to fat32 (no other option in windows format). It worked fine.
@Al, I didn’t understand what you ment with the BIOS you downloaded. Why do I need to change the number?
I also want to flash back to 3109, eventhough 3305 is working fine, but I don’t trust it too much.
Is there any particular reason why you went back?
Cheers,
David
He Ron,
A question about Version 2 you’re making.
How is the project going? I have to say I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m sure many people too.
I just wanted to know if its going to be any time soon, because lately I’m checking almost three times a day, thinking its going to be now, lol, im getting paranoid! Thats why if I know that it will take a while, I can relax I hope.
Thanks,
Lili
Hey Lili,
Don’t get paranoid. It will take I think at least another 2 weeks. Sorry but I have important things in private right now.
But what has been done till now……I use TinyXP Pro SP3, Tweaked more settings (and still some to come), It has the looks and feel of Vista with all the aero and o on in it (need some work on the speed though)…going to add folders on desktop with keyboard layout files plus instruction, applications I think would be nice to run ie Office, Digsby etc. Need to implement the Hitachi filter to make the sdhc slot seen as a fixed hard drive…..then test if more tweaks are needed…then it will most probably be available to a few to test the new one.
So sit back and relax;-)
Ron
@david I went back to 3109 because I needed the lower brightness levels back. this saves battery and I often use my one in bed and don’t like my wife getting mad because of the blinding bright screen with 3305. only bad thing about 3109 over 3305 is the fan stays on longer now but with aaofancontrol or a1crt that is a nonissue. as for the file when I tried to flash it failed to open the .fd file, I noticed that all the other bios files were named ZG5_xxxx.fd so I just renamed it ( change D to G) and tried and it worked perfect.
@Ron
For version 2 can you maybe try to have all the icons on the desktop removable? I like a clean desktop but i cannot remove the acerweb cam icon on this version.
@ AL…yes is fixed on desktop not by me but the installed driver for the webcam. But of course I know how to handle that too/
To remove the webcam icon on desktop do the following:
1) Right click on “My Computer” choose “Registry Editor”
2) Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\
3) Below NameSpace you see “Delegated Folders” click on this and you will see one entry.
4) Right click on “Delegated Folders” choose “Delete” -> say ok on the windows which ask if you want delete folder and subkey.
5) Right click on desktop and choose “refresh”
6) Voila Icon is gone.
Thank you I knew there was a regedit I could do I just wasn’t sure. now with a clean desktop and no freezing this thing is perfect. ok maybe if it could open beer for me it would be perfect but it’s damn close now.
I just reflashed my bios back to 3109 and reinstalled the image step by step, and my AAO also works faster now; no more 3 sec freeze! it is working absolutely fine now, and I only have 512ram!
Cheers!
@David
You have only 512 ram? I´ve never flashed my bios, so i guess i still have the original (3109). I always updated my One through the live-update but that never updates the bios, right?
@Nuno..windows does not update your Bios…you need to do that yourself…with a bootstick (USB).
At boot press F3 to get in your bios and there you can check your version……depending when it was produced decide the bios version.
@David.. watch closely what happen with the response when you install software again…maybe you can find the cause of the 3 sec delay…if and when it occurs again…let’s hope not!!!!
Ron thanks for the quick xp version.
Leaves me with one question, is it possible to work with remote desktop, or is this function removed?
@Ron, as soon as I notice anything strange, I’ll let u know. I hope it doesn’t happen though.
The only thing I noticed from reflashing back to original bios (3109), is that the fan runs louder, but only when I start and shut-down the AAO. This didn’t happen on the 3305, it was very low, but I will keep the 3109, seems to work better (no freezes).
Writing this post, I just noticed that the fan started to run and I’m only at CPU 50, its suppose to run at 65! does this happen to anyone else?
Ron, do you know where you saved the AAO fan control file, so that I can delete it and update it with the new version? The new one seems to be better, as it has an extra option ( you can set fan on degree and fan off degree).
@David…I saved it in c:/windows…I think folder Fancontrol
Hi Ron,
Followed your instructions and now my AA1 works great. Thanks a lot.
There’s one problem though. My AA1 could not display Chinese characters even after I installed the East Asian Languages files from my Window CD.
Is there any missing windows component that I should install?
SP….did you put the codes in your registry and changed the language in the bar as mentioned several times above?
Thanks Ron. Problem solved by downloading the Chinese clear type fonts from Microsoft.
Hi Ron,
I’ve been using your image about 2 weeks from now. And I’d say it works perfect with AAO! I’m much satisfied with all the configuration you did and also I love the application that comes within the image.
I bought a usb modem dongle here in the Philippines so I can surf where ever I want. But the thing is after the LongCheer WM66 modem install its built in drivers and now trying to connect to the internet, I got an error saying there’s no profile. My ISP is Smartbro http://www.smart.com.ph\smartbro, its uses a dialer method just like using a dial modem with username and password. I think you have disable the dial up mode or something like that. I really like your image so I just want to resolve my usb modem to work with your Ron’s image.
Hope you can help about this so I will not go again in the normal XP OS which occupy more with my small 8gig SSD.
Advance thanks
Alexis
@Ron
I like to use Remote desktop, but is it removed in this XP version?
yep
ok thanks anyhow Ron.
Hello,
I downloaded the file and tried to make the usb. But with step 10 I get the comment that an other file needs to be used, the one in part 2. When I click that one it says it needs the file from part 3. And so on….. When I trie part 5 it says that I should start with a previous file… How can I get the tinyxpaao.gho on my usb to make it work?….. Many thanks in advance!
I`ve managed to get it working. Dis something wrong, but don`t know what exactly….. Now I just need to figure out why my mireless isn`t working…. It can see my network…but I can`t Get it connected. Probably just a simple error…
@Redmar, I had the same problem ,you need to read the other posts above, its all already answered.
Cheers,
David
Good and fast working program on A110. One problem: Outlook 2003 can send mail but will not receive mail. Error 0×80040154. Update Office 2003 SP3 will not solve the problem. Please, do you have advise?
Thanks in advance!
Wim
Dear Ron,
I was hoping that you can arrange for a Swedish keyboard installation as well. Because like all others, I cannot use Windows Update because of two Windows Update files that fail to install from the website.
Another Swede trying to install a Swedish keyboard!
Installed Tiny XP and everything is running smooth (except the Keyboard!)
Thanks Ron for the effort!
Thanks For the RS links RON!! saved me from buying a ext cd drive
Oh no..
So exited, but…
When I try to boot from the usb it says…
NTLDR is missing
Press any key to restart
Then I’m back to horible horrible limpus.
Please help
Thanks Ron for the program. It is fantastic. Is there any chance or way to install remote desktop?
Thanks,
Kelly
@ Terence……you cant boot TinyXP from the usbstick…
did you try to make the stick bootable with the supplied format tool?….choose FreeDos and be sure you have Internet connection…without internet the tool doesn’t work…it get the files live from the internet and write them to the USB stick to make it bootable.
@Kelly…yes it is possible…you need the files to install the services.
The Swedish Keyboard files will be coming soon…working on them.
SWEDISH KEYBOARD LAY-OUT
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=50NW5EIF
2) put “KBxxx.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click xxxxxxxxLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
Simon pls a message if this worked for you!
Ron,
you are DA man!!!
Driving me crazy to find those “a” and “o” with small dots on top on a Swedish keyboard with US layout code.
Was thinking about changing the name of file kbdsw.dll to kbdus.dll to fool the system?
My gosh….this worked sooooooo WELL!
Thanks for the image Ron! Fantastic effort!
Installed on a AAO 150(16G SSD).
Martin
Installed a Qualcom 3G modem without problem.
Installation files on the USB stick!
Also running a network hard disk without problem.
Just the keyboard!
@Knoten…..wont work to fool the system like that..lol the code in the DLL stays the same.
@Martin…glad to see an other happy user
Thanks Ron.
I used the files mstc.exe and mstscax.dll and when I try to launch the program I get “the system cannot find the file specified. C:\WINDOWS32\\mstsc.exe.MUI
I hit ok then nothing happens
Sorry the path did not come through…it should have been
“C:\WINDOWS32\\mstc.exe.MUI”
@Kelly….C:\WINDOWS32\\mstc.exe.MUI….????….u sure
Each time I type it the dissapears between the \\
LANG_NAME with < on either name dissapears
I have an operating system on my Aspire One now but I just wanted to know, what fan control software is in that. Does it work all right and is it available separately ?
Thanks Ron – could not be more easier.
I have one problem. I can’t install UK keyboard inout.
all my @ sings are ” and vice-versa.
Windows won’t allow me to install IE to get the updates. It comes up with a big red cross and says IE cannot install. I can’t choose any other language to install from XP disc from the Regional settings in control panel – there’s no options in the drop downs.
I attempted also to copy over the KBDUK.DLL but this was already present. The reg file posted above (megaupload) is no longer available – would this fix my problem?
I know you’re working hard but I’d appreciate the help.
In return (
) I can tell you and the visitors that Remote Desktop will work on this release.
You need to copy over 2 files (mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll) from a working XP installation in windows\system32\
Also (from same folder) the whole folder and contents of us-en (three .mui files within). Double clicking mstsc.exe will them open up the remote log-in window. No shortcut is created however – this needs to be done manually.
lol.
Scratch that. The download is now available and all fixed.
Hope the remote desktop hint helps anyway.
Thanks Ron ![]()
Genius work.
ok fixed it I just didn’t have a bootable usb.
Cheers Ron, I really hated linpus.
Thanks Mick for the tip! Remote desktop runs like a charm now
Oh great. Glad I helped someone
Have to say, I’ve ran a version of TinyXP on a laptop for a looooong time with little or no resolvable problems, but on this Acer, this release is flaky as hell. Progs won’t install/uninstall, registry entries won’t delete, lots of freezes. Will not deny it’s great work by Ron and a million miles from what I could do, but it’s falling short of workable in my opinion – sorry. Way, way too many services disabled perhaps.
I desperately wanted XP on this so I could work with certain WINX apps on the road and was so pleased to see this uo and running, but it’s back to Linpus for me I’m afraid.
NO disrespect whatsoever to Ron. Sincerely.
M
@Mick
I just have to say, this is NOT an official release from acer! So don’t treat it like one! This is a complete volunteer project by Ron! I really appreciate what he has done.
I personally have no problem whatseover with deleting registries or uninstalling prgs, so I dont know what you’r on about. I had some hickups at first (UK keyboard, 3 sec freezes), but all that have been resolved very quickly with the help of Ron.
Another thing: this is a webbook.. not a laptop, so dont treat it as a laptop replacement, in my opinion it has everything needed to work on the road. If you want to go back to (crap) linpus, thats fine, but we dont need posts like that here! you say “no disrespect”, but how can you say that, after you’ve just put his release down like that??
@Ron
RESPECT!
@ Mick…Windows can never be perfect! I don’t know what you all like to install but over 90% should work just like that. Did you installed and uninstalled more programs? And not kept your registry and installed services clean?….More people had freezes and after they reinstalled the image and only installed what they needed it works fine.
And I have to agree with David…It’s just a netbook nothing more!
Mick the post about the remote desktop was a good one.
Success with Linux!
@ Gvidor….yes the fancontrol tool is available (update version)
Windows XP & Vista. This was terrific work by Ralf (a.k.a. LoveTheOne).
You can get it here:
http://www.computentsystems.de/aceraspireonefancontrol/
Thanks for taking my comments as they were meant Ron.
I have passed this URL and info onto many people and have even re-installed the image again today myself. I didn’t put it down, I just am honest enough to say there were problems experienced. if people didn’t say as such how would things ever be approached??
@David – grow up for goodness sake. Ron’s a big boy and can talk for himself, I’m sure he doesn’t need embarrassing sycophants muddying the waters and stipulating what posts should and shouldn’t be allowed on HIS blog.
Thanks for blindly ignoring the fact that I also made an attempt to help the project with the Remote Desktop hint.
@Mick
I wasn’t trying to be nasty or anything like that.
I was, just like you, pointing out some general facts.
Lets not argue on this blog pls, it will only make things messy.
Cheers!
ps. no hard feelings
Already forgotten about David. I would imagine neither of us have the time or inclination to be arguing.
I’ve re-installed today and kept as clean as I can. I’ve not bothered with Bluetooth implementation as that was a big problem. I think the software played a big part in it though. I couldn’t uninstall OR delete registry keys. Very odd.
I’m running Adobe Photoshop CS4 on it at the moment though with no issues, which was something I wanted to try.
Thak you all for your help with Remote desktop……now I am having one more issue.
Under advanced options tab in RMD I am unable to change my “connect from anywhere” settings to enable TS gateway. the seetings option is greyed out and the message using gatetway is not supported by your system configuration.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanx for your good work Ron!
I have the same problem as the swedes, but I need a norwegian keyboard. Is there anywhere I can find it. The windows update don’t work.
Hi Ron,
It seems that your image had nlited out 16-bit support. I could not install MS Money99 on my AA1, which gives error message “The Win 16 Subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode …”
I understand that you are working on a second version. Could you include 16-bit support on it.
Many thanks.

@Mick…very strange you can’t delete registry keys…were does it stop for you to do so?
@SP…16bits support is not yet to stay in next release…anyhow it is not sure I will release it the same way as this one for everyone. I’m thinking of a smaller group of users.
@ Kelly.
Same here Kelly. Fortunately it’s not needed here.
If you can find out what files TS relies on, you could attempt to fix by copying them over as we did with the RD earlier?
If I find anything I’ll let you know.
Sorry to double post.
@Kelly – can you try to copy the files already copied from a machine with SP3 on it if not already?
All the info I can find points to the problem being with SP3.
Thanks for this Ron. Just bought the 8GB AAO on Monday and couldn’t stand the linpus.
Had to do a bit of a workaround as i only had a 256mb usb stick and a 160GB USB HDD available.
With the freedos installed on the usb stick, and the ghost image on the HDD, it worked fine with just substituting D: (the USB HDD) for c: (The USB Stick) in the instructions.
You da man Ron!!
Hi Ron! Thanks for a great work, could you give me a fix for finnish keyboard please?
Hello Ron! First of all I want to thank you for the great image!
I have almost everything working just fine. My only problem is the USB modem, a ZTE MF620, which after installing the software, gives me an error “Exception in module DLL_NETCARD_R.DLL at 00044DF3″. I’ve updated the firmware, but didn’t solved the problem. I googled it but nothing either. It works fine on other computers with XP and Vista. The problem could be related with the “phone and modem” components removal?
Please could you give some help? Thanks.
just bought my aspire one SSD 8GB..help me………
i need XP on it…..:(
is there any trouble between tiny XP and nokia pc suite???
@ron i’ll try it tonight…god bless me….. please…

@SergioR & leon….I’m not familiar with that 3rd parties software…although I know that Nokia Suite have/had prolems with SP3 in XP. USB modem should work…the problem is in the software try to google for a DLL fix or a forum for the ZTE modem. Sorry I don’t have the hardware to help you in this.
Thanks for your the fix for the norwegian keyboard. It worked as you described it. In fact I tried to rename the no_keyboard file to th US_keyboardfile before I got your proposal and that also worked ok, but I think your way is better
i’ve already download the file from the rapid share (5part)
its succesful to unrar the file
but when itried to instal in to my AAO its hang on this step…
next screen choose option 1:Install to harddisk using FreeDOS SETUP (default).
there are no choose option..
the screen just show FreeDOS en blinking cursor
oo… there are message such as:
“MEMDISK: Image seems to have fractional end cylinder” is it error message??
ron can u help me…….:(
Hi Ron,
I have a problem on the power tray icon which always shows it’s on AC power even if it’s on battery alone.
I don’t know if it’s just my AA1 or does others have the same problem. I tried the method as posted on the AA1 user forum of copying batt.dll to windows system32 folder but it does not work for me.
Any suggestion on how to solved this problem since it is not very practical not knowing how much charge is left on the battery.
Thanks again for your great work.
@Leon….I think you don’t do the steps as written…Did you make the Freedos Stick WITH Internet connection? Freedos need files from Internet. If so, did you go after booting to the right folder c: or D: where ghost.exe is? the start ghost.
@SP….read post above…I posted the file as well with an instruction….putting the dll in system32 is not enough…you have to reinstall the driver after that (easy…its the dll what is copied)…then it must work…It sounds like you did copy butt didnt reinstall it……download the file and follow theinstruction
….should work for you.
Hi everyone. Ron, thanks for this ghost image. I am a very happy linux user. But for work, I am stuck with XP. I will try to install your TinyXP and then double boot with Linpus Linux. I have 8GB SSD and 8GB SDHC. Hope it will be enough room to store both systems!. Anyone has done it? Thanks in advance.
thx, great work mate…but could you please make an italian language keyboard layout file? thank you!!
I think you don’t do the steps as written…Did you make the Freedos Stick WITH Internet connection? Freedos need files from Internet.
====
yes i made freedos stick with internet conection
If so, did you go after booting to the right folder c: or D: where ghost.exe is? the start ghost.
i dont get this one… did u mean booting at AAO after instalation?? btw i never finished instalation at AAO its stuck on that point (14)
i put ghost.exe at USB stick…
i think get the problem….
when i made the freedos stik..it download from internet such file..i think it never finish at all, but unet bootin said it already done..how come??
i tried many time its just the same result, is there any problem with the site???
even i tried DL the latest unetbootin (299), its just the same..failure…
heheheh actually…..:p
when i made freedos, the DL process was interrupted in the middle off procces by my INTERNET ACCELERATOR…ugh…
now instalation tiny xp is under processs
ohh god help me….
i made it ron!!!!!!
thanx alot!!!
now i am going to explore it…
wow, finally i had nokia PC suit on my AAO..works fine..connect to the internet as easy as one click only….:D
Thanks Ron,
Find out the source of the problem of the battery icon. It is related to the program “a1ctl” patching the ACPIEC. After performing the unpatching, the battery icon reappears.
Hope this will be helpful to others having the same problem.
Hi…I have an spanish keyboard, I see no way to change to spanish. Any clue? Any one please? I have googled a lot and trying but have no solution yet.
This TinyXP Version is great for my asus aspire one, but I have encountered a problem and I do hope you can help me.
I am using a Huawei E220 USB Modem for 3G / HSDPA Connection and installed it’s Connection Manager Software. When I try to launch the program, nothing happens. I can’t even trace the specific logs on the Event Viewer for this problem.
I am sure that it’s not a problem with the modem since I use it on another laptop and its not a problem with the Acer Aspire since I used the modem successfully when I installed a full WinXP Prof on it.
Hi Ron,
you really made a good job! I downloaded the iso image for Italian language from Microsoft website, could you please provide me with the autorun file for the Italian keyboard layout?
This is my e-mail address: diehard_74@hotmail.com
Cheers,
Marco
@Leon & SP….thanks for u contribution
@Cakkes….sorry don’t have/use usb modems..cant support you on this one.
@Markusss & Asphixmx
ITALIEN & SPANISH KEYBOARD LAY-OUT

Italien:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X7NW92DW
Spanish: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=60VSF5QI
2) put “KBDxx.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click xxxxxxxxLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
pls leave a message if this worked for you!
@cakkes wow…did you mean asus aspire one or what…?:)
@ron thanx…really great job, this tiny XP even better than my XP home at my asus notebook..,nokia pc suite run perfect on this tiny xp…..
did u still work on os X for AAO?? cant wait it…hihii
Besides my keyboard problem (there is no spanish set on the keyboard layout, only english), I downloaded windows live messenger, and cant be installed
because of an error the messenger installer says.
Oh sorry for the typo I meant Acer Aspire One … Anyways I’ve been looking at other sites for the resolution for my 3G / HSDPA problem and saw this comment.
Your nlite build must include modem support. If you followed the guide at http://www.i64x.com/eeexp.php, he takes it out (you can take out modem drivers).
Can you help me to enable modem support for this tinyxp. Thanks.
@Ashinix…the given links to the Spanish Layout should work…if not you did something wrong….you copied file to right place?…you installed reg settings?….you changed language settings in keyboard settings?….one of these steps you must have done wrong.
And about messenger…there is already enough said about it..DL the standalone MSN messenger installer…and look at the forum aspireonuser.com…others who solved this.
@Leon..for the record: This is not my blog!..It’s from 2ManyDjs and he was working on OS X.
@Matthew…
You asked on the forum if its possible to enable the Balloon Tips in this TinyXP version….YES IT IS.
I wrote a smale file to edit your registry for it (I didnt test it though because I dont use this image at the time).
1) Download file: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YWLKXVN2
2) Double click the file, OK to change registry
3) Reboot
4) Voila!
Pls left message if this reg file did the job so I dont have to test it myself anymore.
Well, what can I say, just quite outstanding package.
Installed it on my AAO, on which I just upgraded two 1,5Gb, and it works like a charm.
I added VLC and tried som media. I feel DVD iso files play OK, normal DivX also. But 720p mkv files seams to be to rich for it. But I guess that is to be expected.
In Firefox I completely removed any history saving, and also unchecked the “Check my spelling as i type” checkbox in the advanced tab, thought that might give more trouble then it helps.
Tried to install Chrome Browser just to test. Not sure yet how it stands up though.
Once again, thanks a million billion for this, and for your outstanding support here.
Looking forward to your next XP image.
/MrStarhouse
hi ron…
can i upgrade firefox to the latest version???
any one experience with this???any trouble??
@Leon…..yes no problems, but the last time I tried the Windows Update add on didnt work well….but I guess that is solved by FireFox by now
thank you ron
Sorry for the English. Your excellent work, CONGRATULATIONS. I need Remote Desktop windows How can I install it?. Thank you.
OH. MY. GOD!
After wasting way too much time trying to figure out and customize Linux, this is an answer to my prayers!
Ron, you are seriously amazing, and THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES!!
already upgrade my firefox to 3.04 ver. hihihi its run perfect
@ Aldope….read the posts of Mick.
Hi Ron,
I’ve had your tinyXP installed for over a month and think its great!!
This may seem silly, but I haven’t been able to change desktop background images. All I can get to work is the field image you included, and the patterns and solid colors. None of my own images.
Any ideas as to how to make them work?
Thanks!!
@Jon…there is being talked about this on aspireoneuser.com
Can install a new theme…or if its only the image….make an image of 1024×600 pixels and call it bliss.jpg…..and overwrite the bliss.jpg file on your SSD (bliss.jpg is your current background.
@Ron[nl]
Thank you for the messenger tip & the spanish keyboard reg file. They are working now! Now I have a problem with outlook; it can’t find the pop, either the smtp servers. Maybe because I am in a starbucks now…Don’t know. I’ll try again when I get home. Thanks again for your help!
Thanks a million Ron! Appreciate your tinyXP and you timely answering all the questions here!!!
Hi Ron,
I noticed that you are working on a new project (PerformanceXP on SSD). Does this mean that you dropped the last project of v2 (vista look-a-like)? Or is it still the same one?
If it is a new one, how is this one going to be?
Thanks for all your help so far!
@asphixmx,
had the same problem with Outlook (and Outlook Express).
Didn’t work with pop server (but smtp server OK!)
Moved over to Thunderbird without problem
Forgot to say that Outlook and Outlook Express worked with “Fatty” XP!
Ron thank you very much for bringing this post, you’ve solved a lot of people install the windows directly from USB. A big hug from Argentina.
@Knoten
I uninstalled the bundled Office2003 and then reinstalled from my cd. The problem is still there. Can’t send or receive mails in outlook. POP&SMTP doesn’t work. I haven’t found a solution yet. Yes maybe I can try the tunderbird as you did, but I need the outlook because of my work
If I found a solution of the outlook issue, I’ll post it.
Thanks a lot Ron and 2manydjs
Installed without any problem, and runs faster than linpus i think. However, i cannot find a german keyboard setup in the comments here, only swiss german, would it be possible to get the pure german too?
Jonas
@Lili…it’s all in the same…at least I’ll try to keeep speed good enough….I left TinyXP as base and am testing with an other basis of a XP version. (btw keyboard layouts included:-)).
@Polsa…pure German is coming up…will make it now.
@Knoten and asphimix….you looked in the services?…I remember the (windows) services could be disabled.
GERMAN (standard) KEYBOARD LAY-OUT
1) download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=THBOV3XZ
2) put “KBxxx.DLL” in C:\windows\system32\
3) double click xxxxxxxxLayout.reg -> OK (this put keyboard in registry)
4) now install/configure it using the “regional and language options.
Voila!
pls leave a message if this worked for you!
Other than having to change the regional settings to US this has worked so incredibly well. After trying to install a full version of XP, this is night and day! Thank you for all of your hard(and uncompensated) work Ron, by far the easiest way I have found to get TinyXP up and running and kicking ass!
Thanks Ron for the finnish keyboard, works great, Btw have you tried MicroXP (0.83) image by eXPerience? Works great and seems even faster than your tiny image. Have you thought about basing your next image to that one?
Yes I tried MicroXP….works fine but has even less services than this one, which makes already some problems for users. So no I wont use that one.
Yeah Jukeboxhero…my region is Dutch:-)
Hello,
I just installed this TinyXp version in my Aspire One. It seemed great. I then downloaded Avast from my desktop and transfered it to my Aspire without ever connected to the internet. At the first scheduled scan Avast detected two infected dll’s with Trojan. I found one of them on a Nederlands forum. Anyone expirienced something similar? Any explanations?
Thankyou Ron
System works great.
I used a 16gb fat32 usb, no problems.
Also try driver genius, if your drivers don´t work
Dankya vell ( only dutch I know )
@vvvv…nor Kingston Internet Security, Eset’s NOD32 found a virus. And sometimes scanners see unknown dll’s as a virus…what dll’s Avast see as an infected one?
Dankya vell=Dank je wel
[...] you’ve installed TinyXP you might be interested in installing the following additional [...]
Thanks Ron.
It was ..system32/efcbqpnn.dll , and tuvVNHwV.dll
but also Dc1.exe in C:Recycled\Dc1.exe\$INSTDIR\is169740.exe
although as I mentioned Avast it was the first thing I ve installed..
GREAT!!! I was literally trying to sell my AAO when i decided to give it a last shot with XP and found this release.
easy to install and works great!!
Thank you so much!!
Greetings from Lisbon.
PS: Please mind the gap -> AAO is in fact a NETBOOK.
Running adobe photoshop CS4 on a netbook… is really beeing optimistic
PS2: I know this is big trouble for you Ron and probably our “minor” individual problems gives you a lot of trouble and makes you spend lots of time but PLEASE we want 2nd version
sorry forgot something i didnt found kingston internet security, what i found and installed was kingsoft internet security. is it the same you’ve recommended?
cheers
lecker!
Excellent! This works very well on my AAO. Now to work on a dual-boot solution..
@vvvv..tuvVNHwV.dll is a part of the fancontrol solution.and the others I don’t really know…but I can imagine it belongs to this as well……fancontrol exists from to parts of software…..the first part (also the dll i mentioned) is software from taiwan what is needed to talk with the controllers and sensors on the motherboard. This piece of software has no signatures and can be seen as a virus.
@Macielle…yeah you’re spot on….Kingston=Kingsoft. On the new version I use Eset NOD32 what looks also very promising.
Hello Ron,
I ve noticed that there was one more suspected file, TVicPort.dll and I ve found out that it was part of the fancontrol.
I uninstalled fancontrol and tvciport and installed it again (the newer version). There is no trace of tuvVNHwV.dll.
Can you check at somepoint at a clean installation and see what is going on?
Thanks a lot.
Despite that, it is a great work! well done.
Hi Ron!
Thumbs up for you from Italy! I was desperately trying to have XP decently running on my AAO and found your Post.
Your “distribution” is incredibly fast and well done!
A couple of questions: do you have any advise about which Internet suite to install on AAO?
Should we disable prefetch as advised by other users?
Ciao Enrico.
@vvvv…no I’m not reinstalling this version….It worked fine for me with no suspected files….plus I didnt find any suspected action when it was installed either. Plus I’m working on a different XP installed base now.
@Enrico…yeah prefetch disabled would be fine (although I did enabled it….hmmmmm strange)..can’t check it anymore…maybe you can check and make (if you know how) a reg file for ppl here to do the same
Hi Ron,
What is prefecth, and how can I disable it? Will it improve my speed? My bf has recently upgraded my laptop, to 1.5 ram. But I didnt notice a lot of speed improvement, so any extra tip for improvement would be GR8!!
Thanks
Lily
Hi Ron,
thx for your prompt reply.
I have checked the Registry and found no entry named ‘EnablePrefetcher” in the “Prefetchparameters” folder so I guess you have already disabled it.
Re Internet suite: I have found a post written by you re Kingsoft Security. You recommended it as your choice. Can you confirm it is still your favourite.
As you may see you are my GURU now!
Thanks and greetings from Italy,
Enrico.
Did someone got msn live to work? i still get same error when i try to run the one i’ve downloaded from msn website.
i even try to use and old version i got from oldversion.com but then tells me to update to new version and same error…
i cant i suppose. because it says: “a new version is available, you must install new version in order to continue. would you like to do this now?”
and if i choose no, i wont connect, if i say yes it downloads new version and i get same error. Any luck with msn guys?
German Keyboard seems to work perfectly.
MSN works without any problems to me, i did as you said that you already tried, installed an old version (7.5 i think) and it updated itself without any problems.
Got it
for those with problems getting MSN Live Messenger running:
ERROR i got was: 0×80070714
1 – Open firefox and google for: windows update firefox addon
2 – Install Windows Update Firefox Addon and restart Firefox.
3 – Go to Tools on firefox and clink on WindowsUpdate shortcut
4 – Firefox automatically Opens IE and and windows update installs something. You’ll be asked to reboot. Reboot.
5 – Go to http://www.oldversion.com and download MSN version 7.5 -> Install MSN 7.5, when you try to login press yes on update to new version.
6- MSN Live will be working
Thanks RON for this AMAZING release! ITS GREAT!
Hi Ron,
I’m currently testing as you suggested KingSoft Internet Suite 9 and I’m really satisfied! Fast and lot of nice features.
Just FYI I have used NOD32 Internet Suite for a short time on my Dell laptop and really I didn’t like it very much. It seemed to me that the firewall was not configurable at all and the Spam filter did slow down the machine a lot…
This post is mainly to thank you very much for your excellent job and fast communication! You saved me for months of “tweaking” and “trial and error”.
Keep up your good job and take care!
Enrico.
I, i’m very interested in your portage project for the aspire one, i’ve got an A110 successfully installed with you disk image , but for Xmas i would offer it my child of ten , wo only speak french, so is ther any solution to tranform the whole image in a french one, if there is one or other solution please answer me,
Merry Xmas to all
Ron,
this is absolutely golden. I’ve tried so many OSes to make my AA1 behave as I wish, from linpus to ubuntu to puppy linux. I do have one question though, I seem to be having problems getting onto a WPA Enterprise network, is there an easy fix for this?
hi ron..
mine is AAO 8GB..i want to know what is the maximum capasity of the SD expansion slot??? one said 8GB is it true???
(sad mode on)
Another happy Acer One user, tks to you !!!
Although my wireless drops signal easily, and lack of anti-virus~~~
wireless problem fixed, tks above post.
chinese font installed, tks google…
I am a happy AO User now!!!
@leon
I’m running here with a 16 gig card, in the acer one.
(adata sdhc 16gb.)
Maybe that is the limit? I don’t know…
Hi Ron
I have a question, I installed this OS, but i have 2 problems.
1 i cant use internet explorer for the windows updates, do you have a answer??
2 My wifi doesnt work, it wont see any wifi channel?? dont know why, but it is not working, i tried everything.
I have the a 110ab, with 1,5 ram.
Can you help a fellow dutchmen??
Thanks
@jip,
i had same problem with the wifi… do this, go to system and remove (hardware) the atheros wlan, then just press (or reboot) to search for new hardware, it will install atheros wlan again and it will be 100%. ![]()
oh and check if its “on”
*you have a little switch on the right side of the AAO.
wow!, tnx men this works great, i instaled it on a hdd AAO with no problems
hi alljunks, how did you get the chineses font fixed? i can’t read the chinese words in web with chinese characters…
@dribibu..
did you put it on expansion slot or on the card reader???
Installed successfully .thank you
hi ron! thank you for this! i have just installed it and its working perfectly and so are the programs that i have installed (yahoo msnger, itunes, bitcomet, etc..) but i have a problem on a particular program that i installed, the saunders comprehensive review for nclex-rn. when i click it, an hourglass icon appears but then nothing happens. its working fine on my desktop (xp) and my other laptops (vista) except for my aao installed with your software. i would just like to ask if there may be compatibility issues with other programs such as this and if there’s some way to fix it. thanks.
hi Ron,
thanks to you now my little one is running on xp!!! have been playing around with it, so far it’s great! one small problem i’m experiencing, can’t read chinese character on some web page, how can i solve it?
thanks in advance!!
thanks ron! will try this one out.. I have read that WinXP runs super slow on aao ssd, due to the ssd’s poor write function… Will this tinyXP image be fast and not sluggish as others have experienced? Thanks!!
Hello Ron,
I just wanted to know the progress on your second release
Thanks,
Lily
Hey Ron, wonderfull job btw, congrats.
I’d like to ask you if your software will run better/faster than full SP3 XP, on a AAO 150 HDD version.
Please let me know, thx in advance.
would just like to ask if the expansion card slot on the left will still work if I install XP on this? or will it just act like a card reader/writer and not integrating the space to the overall available space of the aao.
thanks!
Thanks Ron!! will try out….
thanks ron!
In Linpus, when I insert an sdhc card, the aao integrates the 4gb sdhc automatically and natively into the aao total storage space as opposed to using the card reader/writer on the right port, which would show up as an external memory.
my question is this, in XP, would the aao integrate the storage space of the sdhc card into the OS’s? Hope i explained it clearly
thanks!
First of all: thanks for you great job.
I have used belarc software to check if XP is updated. The output told me that there are several important and critical patches to install.
question n1) is the result just a “false positive” due to the trimmed version of xp ?
question n2) is there any functional alternative to windows update (I am blocked by the WGA control).
Thanks again
Mauro
Hi,
I am trying to install this version, but when ghost reaches ~4% it says “decompression error” and aborts. Any idea what went wrong?
Thanks,
K
I already successfully installed tinyxp on my aao ssd/1gb
thank you ron for sharing this very useful compilation.
I’m fine with the sdhc card being an external memory, but the loud fan noise (which I did not have in Linpus) and hot temps on the wrist area is creeping me out!
nevertheless great stuff!
Hi ron
Great work.
Loved my “new” AA1
portuguese key working
IE7 portable working
everything working in this litle netbook, even better than limpus
thank you a lot.
hi again ron! here is the download link to the program that i am talking about:
http://www.mediafire.com/index.php
don’t worry its just a small file, about 13mb. i hope you can help me figure out what components i am missing in order to run this.
thanks.
ahh this looks very promising, but i have hit a problem, i have formatted my pen drive, put all the stuff on correctly, and then tried to boot with it, it comes up with the blue screen saying default, i press return and i get this come up “loading boot sector…… booting….
FreeDOS” and then nothing happens, no options or anything, i tried pressing return and 1 and things, but nothing happens. i have an acer aspire one, the hdd version, currently running linpus if that helps
Great stuff Ron, I cannot believe just how quick this runs.
I would like to ask about your work with win7, are you waiting untill release or working on one of the other builds, such as PDC release? from what I understand win7 should run really well on netbooks.
Keep up the good work
Scottie
ahh yhh, i re-copied it all to my pen drive again! and it works!!! i have been trying to get this done for 3 days now, thank you soooo much!!! ahh this is wicked!!
thanks so much!!
Alex
hi ron!!!
can i have this tiny xp installed in regullar notebook??
ohhh okay… luv this tiny xp..even better an faster than my xp home at asus notebook
Hi! When i suspend the AAO can i simply put it on my bag and carry it? Or will the fan start working?
Hi Ron, just a question about the “PC cleaner” that is installed on your image.
I just noticed that its a very old version, is there any particular reason why you choose to install that version and not the recent version? Otherwise I will just upgrade to the new version.
Thanks
thank you Ron[nl]
just installed tinyxp on my aao 8g ssd, install was quick and it’s running perfectly, all the hardware works, the whole install including office takes only 1 gig, can you please advice re: how i can create partition on the 8g ssd
thanks again, great work
managed to partition the ssd using EASEUS Partition Manager 3.0 Home Edition
Hi Ron…One question (from Spain)….Is it possible to install your TinyXP version from a CD?..Is it possible to burn a CD with your version and to install it on my AAO?
Thank you!
Hey Ron!
Thanks a lot for this marvellous OS. I just installed it on my AAO110L with 512Mb RAM and it’s so much better than the fully updated Ubuntu 8.10 installation I had. Awesome!!
OT:
Oh, one more thing! I hope the Dutch speed-skaters have had a good build up to this season cause we Norwegians have a new kid in town…in case you were interested in sports that is… Dutch ppl are almost as mad drinkers as norwegians and one of the best parties I have ever been to was down-town Rotterdam after Spain-Norway (0-1) in Euro 2000. The city was mostly orange but we certainly made our efforts to add some red, white and blue with good help from the dutch! Greatest party ever!!!
Best regards,
HanDerre
Thanks for the great guide (not to mention 300+ posts of patient support) Ron, set up first time in moments!! Soooo easy, thank you!!
This is awesome!! I almost lost faith with my AA1 after converting it XP which gives me like 3 minute boot up time. Going to give it a try and post my thoughts.
Hi Ron!
Fantastic work! Your rom and tutorial are really great!
Linux2Xp so easy!
I assume I can get back to Linpus Linux Lite with the dvd I got with the laptop right?
Nvm I’m sure I can..
Xp is working sweet now but I enabled hibernation and restarted but still I cant choose it at the shutdown dialog.
Ron, thank U very much, it’s really great.
By the way, can U help with russian and ukrainian layouts?
Please)
And can I install IE7 (well i need it) for this set? should it work ok?)
@ Thank you, IE is ok, waiting for layouts))
@Ron it has no icon “UA” but its Ukrainian, and it works that’s all I need. Thank U for the help)
Hi Ron,
How is it going with the version 2? Is it almost finished?
Have a nice Christmas and New Year.
Lily
I cant get the euro sign with the alt-gr key and 5 anyone know how I can fix this?
Hi, Ron. Great work I must say
But i found that there’s no sound alert on the windows live messenger… Anyone have this problem and any solution on that??
hi ron thx again for IE link….somehow i miss IE too…even that i already had firefox and opera on my AAO
What’s the progress on version 2 Ron?
I need to re-install windows on my AA1 cuz of some language problems so should i wait for the new one?
I cant change the directory.. To C: where the ghost.exe file is.. Tried several other letters like b,d,f etc..
any help?
Hey john, does this also contain Greek version of XP?
oh lol another John, well i don’t know you should ask Ron about it.
Hello all! Just stumbled across Ron’s TinyXP and this forum…am getting excited about giving it a go! One question tho; can the newest version be installed with bios v3114? There was a mention earlier that it was a problem…I hate to reflash the bios if I don;t need to.
I have a new AAO w/Linpus; 512MB and 16GB SSD.
Thanks
Hello Ron, thanks for sharing this wonderful stuff that you made n_n , iam really happy with it n_n , but there are still things that i want to clarify if you don’t mind n_n , first will visual studio and SQL would run in this setup ? i asked this question because when i tried to install AVG it said that “not supported windows version” so i just want to ask if those program stated above would be able to install. i cant install the programs yet because my friend is still borrowing the CD’s and i just want to know in advance if it will work in this OS that you modify .
thanks in advance n_n
Hi Ron, great image, been using it for a while now. I recently tried to install Civ IV and get an error saying the graphics engine failed to load when I run the program. I was expecting it to run amazingly fast but I thought it would at least run. Any ideas?
Thank you so very muts, Ron! After a few days struggling with my Acer, trying everything to put XP on it, now I fixed it in thirty minutes. And… its walks as a little sun!
The only thing I cannot find is how I can let my Outlook get the post from the pop-server.
Thank you very much for this great post!
Hi Ron, you must be getting fed up answering all these questions from the clueless masses ie. me, but anyway as its nearly Christmas I’ll appeal to your xmas spirit…
I’ve installed the image and it works great. I only have 512mb ram so I’ve been using eboostr. Unfortunately it seems to crash a lot. I’ve heard that if you set your page file up to work from your SDHC card it is just the same as ebooster. Do you know if this is true? Can you think why I might be having problems with eboostr?
Oh and while I’m here, I see that you’ve set the hard drive to be fat32. I’ve heard that NTFS is better. Is there any reason you chose fat32 for the AA1.
Merry Xmas
Terence
Same problem as Rietje – Outlook not working. It was some time now but I think smtp was OK (sending mail), but pop3 failed (reading mail). Copied all account data from my desktop PC (with XP sp3) but same problem.
Thunderbird working without problem.
A Merry Christmas to Ron(nl) for the great work with Tiny XP.
And with the Swedish keyboard!!!
Thanks so much!
I have only 512MB RAM but this flies along.
Cold start 20s
From Hibernate 12s
From Standby 5s
Applications start in next to no time – Word is open within a second! My Dell X1 doesn’t start Word that quickly.
Only problem I have had is that when trying to open a pdf file, it seems to try completing/repairing Foxit Reader. I just downloaded and installed version 3.0 and now its fine.
Noting that some people are having email problems, I can report that I have no problem using Outlook 2003 towards Exchange 2007 account.
What I want to do now is get the hibernate file written to SDHC disk instead of SSD. Not starting trying – I’ll report back if I have any luck.
Also, I think I’m going to try and move all Documents and Settings to the SDHC too, to speed things up a bit more hopefully, and more imprtantly, to preserve the SSD
Thanks again!!!
But there were one or two others also!
Me think!
Found them : Post 17 BFin and post 171 Wim.
I was thinking about using Wireshark Network Analyzer on my desktop to see what goes wrong with Outlook, but gave up because I have a network switch in my network that does not allow the desktop to see the traffic. Installed Thunderbird and it worked.
Seems it’s not possible to move hiberfil.sys to anything other the root directory of the c:\ drive.
That’s annoying because the writing of the 512MB is slow (and even worse for people with more memory)
Oh well, I’ll stick with Standby
Hi Santa, er I mean Ron,
Thanks for getting back to me, so just to be clear would you recommend not using ebooster and/or a pagefile set up on the sdhc card. Or is it ok as long as it’s not using the ssd?
I could do with the memory but I’m far too scared to install proper ram (after having watched a video to see how its done.)
elow ron n_n its me again n_n , i just want to ask some question about the services that you disabled… are you the one who actually remove the terminal services on the tiny XP rev 09 or does the tiny xp rev 09 already removed the terminal services? n_n coz debugging wont run with it disabled i tried to restore it using the sp2 build of my desktop and transfer the terminal services registry key and the dll files inside the system32 but it seems that i wont work the service wont start >_< maybe the registry entries are quite a bit different on the sp3 so i want to know if the tinyxp rev 09 does still have the terminal service so i could get the files there n_n thank you n_n
Thank You Very Mucho for your Work!! My AAO 512M RAM/ 8G SSD is working very well with your image. I change the kbdus.dll to kbdsp.dll for the spanish keyboard.
Greetings from Spain and Merry Cristmas to you!!
Manuel
Ron,
Thank you so much as such a champ XP which revive my AAO again.
Another myth happenned to my AAO:
Can not get my Wifi working properly, it’s working fine just first time re-installed driver, next XP start, it’s gone. Atheros Client utility seems like in loop of searching.
My one is AAO 110 (8GB SSD, 1GB RAM)
Merry Xmas – Happy New Year!
Ron,
My AA1 is running like a champ with your image! I appreciate all the work you put into making that happen for us frustrated Linux newbs! Everything works like a champ and I really didn’t notice any change in boot up times or restarts. Nothing to write about anyway. THANKS AGAIN!!!
Don Pedro
hi Ron, cant believe you make this for acer aspire ones now two lol also what is your main forum now for windows releases now appzpoint is dead.
just one question about this release will it work with the new 1gig ram 120gb HARD drive version that is out?
Well I am one happy dude today! Was loving my AAO with 512MB and 8GB SD but not too happy w/Linux as I was practically raised by Windows and so much seemed counter-inutuitive working in Linux! LOL
Took the plunge…completly backed up my factory install (for peace of mind) on a 4gb USB stick per Macles:e
http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/12/acer-aspire-one-aa1backup.html#comments
Installed Ron’s TinyXP per instructions here and couldn’t be happier! The performance is exceeding my expectations!!! I had already ordered another 1GB of ram (a whopping $9.99 outlay) so will go ahead with that install next week, but again…this is really snappy as is!
BTW…the ENTIRE install took less than 10 minutes and took only 1GB+/-!!! WAY less than the original Linux!!!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Ron!
So I used this tool, GREAT btw! But yea, i want to use NTFS format. For those who don’t know how. There’s a way to conver without formatting. I just converted now. It works fine.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881
Thank you for your time and effort, my AA1 is runnin´like a dream after installing your ghostimage. Everything works perfect. The swedish keyboard layout worked perfect aswell after installing the files you uploaded.
Ron!
Thanks, guy! (Dank je wel!) This works great, except…
Can’t seem to get Outlook to work, IMAP or POP. It says it’s “not correctly registered”. Any hints?
Nogmaals bedankt! :^)
Works like a charm, this AA1/110 is released from horrors of Linux for now. Linpus really sucked.
Thanks for a great distro.
Brilliant. It worked first time. I tried Linpus for a while, but couldn’t stand it.
Thank you!
thanks R.O.N and im guessing your on s.i.t.p website still
can you use imgburn or alike on this
sharing is the point
Fantastic work Ron. Worked first time and was so fast on install. Was putting up with Linpus cos it basically did what I needed, but it did seem basic. Was holding off on installing XP because I liked the quick boot up times of Linpus. But this is amazig. So fast on boot up and runs like a dream.
Just wondering if there’s a version for the Eee? A friend has one and it’s even worse than the AAO was!
Brilliant job though!
By the way. I couldn’t get Outlook to work, and the utility there to pull in hotmail just made it completel crash, so uninstalled it and installed standalone Windows Mail Live and it works fab.
so your not the original r.o.n then or that person is not which one is it lol
sorry im confused now
Hey Ron,
nice work i think i have tried almost every distro out there
yours is by far the best just have one tiny thing to ask can you provide the file for Belgian french keyboard files for a neighbor down south
Hi Ron
I posted this on the AAO forum, but I am sure the guys here will appreciate it too.
I am having problems with outlook too. I cannot send/receive internet email, and XP tell me I need to re-install.
I Uninstalled Office, ran PC Cleaner to try and make sure it was a clean un-install and then dl’d a portable copy of of Outlook, when I run this I get the same error.
I am stuck now.
Guy
sorry mate was confused what with you using the name lastxp still and RON as a name or return of the night as it stands for
did not mean offense
Hi Ron,
just wanted to know the progress on version 2. I didnt hear anything about it… are you still working on it?
Thanks,
Lily
Hi Ron,
I’m about to test your image, hope it is as fast as everybody says. Thanks for the effort!
My first intention was to install MicroXP, but i’ll try this first. Why did you not go for MicroXP instead of TinyXP?
Gr, Pieter
Ah, never mind the MicroXP comment. I failed to read all posts
Getting slower and slower to boot…
Initially I could boot in about 20s with thisimage. I have made a few small additions of software:
- a bit torrent client
- a disk performance benchmark
- updated the pdf software to version 3 because of some problems with the default install
Now boot times are closer to 40 seconds! Is Windows really so poor at adding additional software that it can cause the boot time to degrade so dramatically? What generally causes this? Is it software installations switching on additional services that were not previously being run?? Anyway, I’m going to redo the image and leave everything alone for a few days.
I’d let it hibernate, but writing to flash is slow and so it takes 30 seconds to shutdown. Not a problem normally, but irritating if you realise you’d forgotten to do something and want to start the machine again.
I’d use standby, but it loses quite a lot of battery each day in standby. I have bought a 7200mAh battery, but it is so bulky that I can’t bring myself to attach it and spoil the beautiful lines of the aspire one.
Replying to my own post above, the boot time is still close to 35 seconds. Maybe I was a bit optimistic originally, but I’d have sworn that it booted in 20s first few times I tried it. What boot times are others getting?
Just a further note to my post earlier. Windows Mail was working fine. Iinstalled Kingston Internet 9 and ran the scans and let it do the various updates, such as security ones to Office. It found a virus in C:\Program Files\UninstallTool\UninstallTool 1.6.6.exe which it cleaned.
Now Windows Mail Won’t work. It goes to sign in then just crashes asking to send an error report.
Thought I’d mention it. I’ll try reinstalling Outlook and see if that will work
Ron
You’re right that such low boot times aren’t “needed”, but they help.
I use this more as a PDA than as a PC, so power off/on quite a lot to maintain battery through the day. I’ll just have to train myself to use standby and keep plugged in to the mains whenever I can.
Thanks again for a great image.
Is there anyway to get Windows update working? Do I need to install some service?
Hi,
I can’t get updates to work thru Windows update but I’d like to share this info with everyone. You can get updates thru different ways:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/11/25/3-alternative-ways-to-get-windows-updates/
Many thanks for the Swedish keyboard layout-patch-thingy, lacking Swedish keyboard support nearly drove me crazy before i read all the comments here.
YOU SAVE MY NETBOOK!!!!.
At last I can use win XP, after test a lot of tutos to create a win xp boot usb stick, but it never works.
Thanks a lot.
A happy Acer Aspire One 8gb with XP
is it possible to install IIS over this image? i love how the image works but i need IIS for my work.
TX.
Hi,
I sold my Aspire one, after the mem upgrade to 1,5 gig the sdd disk was still to slow. Ron your windows version was the best i tried but the 8sdd was just to slow to work fast. I bought the asus 1000h with 160 gig harddisk with xp, and its fast
.
But thanks for all your effort for all the other users.
Hey, I have found a work around for those having problems with outlook, just using Thunderbird and Lightening. A great software package!
I use my netbook now as if I had a fancy M$ Exxhange server, with “over the air” connection to my PDA and everything…
It requires a couple of tricks, checkout http://sleepywhisper.com/?p=188
Guy
hi ron
i have now upgrade to your xp great work
one thing can not seem to get any windows updates
Ron, another question.
I have problems with my webcam.
It doesn’t appear to be working correctly, I think that after a restart the cam works – but by the time I have been up and running for a while opening skype and other apps that could use the cam.. and then when the driver software doesn’t find the camera, and skype doesn’t find the camera…
any ideas?

Hello Ron.
I have a A110L with the standard Linux. Can I use this Ghost Image? I think the Linux Distribution have more than one partition on my ssd. Is this a problem? Windows is only on one partition.
Thanks.
THX alot Ron
I did what U told me & it worked perfectly
Ron,
Sorry i did not thank you for your great version of xp works great for me on 160gb hard disk, only problem i got is this ntfs partition issue, i have tried external hard disk and works great on ntfs partition with movies stored on there as iso images and mounted using daemon tools.
What i really wanted was to be able to store maybe 10 or 20 iso’s on the hard disk to save having external stuff plugged in…
any ideas how i can format as ntfs partition ? i have ghosted my current setup….
thanks for a reply ron, and thanks again for this it works so perfectly,
cant find anything aspireoneuser forum and nothing on this blog, cant seem to find much on google either but dont really know what to to look for,
thanks again and any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Jak
Just installed and configured Tiny XP.
Works like a charm for now. THANKS RON!
I’ve made my polish programmers keyboard layout and remote desktop work without any problems.
One thing is quite strange though…
Why there is no polish settings for regional and language options?
cheers and big THANKS for You Ron
Great install. No problems
Needed to update office 2003 to include Publisher but wouldn’t let me do it, probably due to different serial numbers. Removed pre-installed office and re-installed from my office disc as a custum install. Works great.
Amazed how fast this runs and only 26 processes running (idle CPU usage about 1-2% and page file 0f 155MB).
Windows media player works great with divX files on SD card
@leon,
I am using a Qualcomm 3G modem with my AA1 and TinyXP without any problem! The software is included in the USB modem. Mine was bought from a Swedish 3G provider.
Hi,
I just downloaded everything, created the USB stick as described and successfully can boot it on my AA1.
I can run Ghost no problems, but when I try to check the image or even install the image Ghost will just return to its main menu doing basically nothing
What am I missing?
Like I said, I followed the instructions and can boot and load Ghost but thats pretty much it
Can anyone please help…!
Ron,
thats exactly what I did. Somehow, however, Ghost takes all my keystrokes (TAB, ARROW, ENTER) but once I select the image it goes streigth back to the main menu thingy, no progress bar, no error message no nothing ![]()
Any further ideas what it could be?
@knoten
thx for the info….
Ron,
you were right, the problem was sitting in from of the screen
Everything works fine now.
It XP crashed after I updated to the latest AA1Fancontrol (1.6).
Using your packaged Fancontrol version (0.9) it hasnt crashed to far.
Thanks alot ron, i love my windowsxp on this AAO. I tweaked register a little according to some1 who posted on aspireoneuserforum. The only problem i face now is gettin Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 installed. I get an error i need windows xp SP2 or above, but frankly the version from ur tinyxp is xp pro with sp3 amiright?? running windows update fails aswell don”t know why.
Overall im very pleased with this OS.
Thanks alot Ron

Not sure if you’r still around ron but, i tried to install the image over 5 times and everytime it says its done, it freezes(loops) on the win xp loading screen.
Any1 know what to do? how or why this is happening? .
thanks.
Hi Ron,
Best wishes for this year.
I just wanted to know if you are still working on the next release?
I’ve been waiting for a while, but I’m not sure if I should keep waiting, thats all.
Thanks for all ur work
Lily
Hi again Ron and cheers!
I just wanted to tell you I wrote an article on my blog about your fantastic OS. I have tried so many different versions of XP claiming to be the best, smallest, fastest but none of them compares to yours! And now that I have upgraded my RAM to 1,5Gb using Corsair ValueSelect 667MHz it runs like Ben Johnson did in the L.A. Olympics (of course, he was on steroids but so is my AAO!!).
This is the 3rd time I come back to this one and this time it’s permanently!
Best regards,
HanDerre
Hello, Ron!
I came into your website through the Aspire One forum. I have an AAO110, with 8GB SDD, 1 GB RAM and Linpus Linux installed. I have tried hard to work with Linux. I understand quite well that Linux is a far mor stable OS than Windows, but I cannot be used to it, specially because I really prefer to work with MSOffice than the OpenOffice. The difficult in changing the desktop appearece in Linpus without simple steps also makes me mad with Linpus Linux. So, I would like to install a Windows OS in my little netbook. I don’t use this machine for great work other than using a text editor, internet and e-mail program, and sometimes a media player. I use this only to take notes at class at the Uni. I am tried to follow your instructions but I have just some questions:
1) You said that your image is just for the English keyboard. Well, I use the Portuguese (Brazilian) keyboard. How can I change this after installing your Windows Image in my AAO?
2) The wireless internet conection will work? All the drivers will work fine too?
3) And what about a 3G connection? I have a Nokia N95 cellphone, and I can use as a last resource when a wireless network is not available. (thought I have never used with my AAO, since I don’t know how to make it work with Linpus. Will your Windows Image allow a 3G connection through a N95 Nokia cellphone?
4) If I follow your steps and things get messy, will I be able to reinstall the (argh) Linpus Linux withou damage to the machine? (I have done this already).
Thanks in advance!
Oh, and a last question: how your image works with the license policies of Microsoft? I mean, will I not have problems installing this image withou a license?
rite i downloaded ur link yh but it dosent have files on it so where am i goin rong with it ?
Ron,
I have a legal copy of both Windows XP and Office 2003 (Office Home and Student, 3 licenses in one product). The only problem is that my copy of WinXP is that which is sold directly with a new computer (it is the original WinXP copy of my HP Pavilion notebbok). I think this perhaps will be a problem ….
On the other side, I must be the dumbest person in the world regarding computers, because I couldn’t pass throug your first step [:0] …. I mean, I have downloaded that file at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7BQ8U53K through my internet wireless connection, saved it to a certain folder in my computer, but when I tried to “extract files 1 – 3 to your windows desktop”, I couldn’t do that because my Windowns says it cannot open this file, because it is “unknown”. (it’s a “rar” file). I suppose I need a specific software to do that, isn’t it? Or it is something else that I cannot grasp with my dumb computer intelligence?
Thanks for your paciente!
Hi Ron,
sorry for my english, I´m spanish.
First, thanks a lot for your great image. Works 100% and fast
But, I´d like change the Microsoft Word language to spanish. I don´t know how. I think delete the office package and install a spanish version but i fear that will go slow because a i dont know if the office is “acelerated” (modding?) too
Will have any problem with a normal version??
Absolutely amazing work Ron! First rate and top-notch with very easy to follow instructions. Bravo! I purchased a Linux version for a friend in Brazil, and after messing with it myself I realized installing apps etc on Linux was going to be a major pain for my less than Windows savvy friend. You came to the rescue. I can’t say thanks enough. Works great right out of the box as you say in 20 minutes!
Does anybody know how I can activate the tooltips?
Apparently they have been disabled by Ron but I like the notifications about battery life and disconnecting a USB device etc.
Can anybody give me a hint?
Ron,
I just cant find the post your talking about regarding the battery. Can you please give me the post number? Thanks!
Hello Ron,
Thanks, that is very kind of you.
I do understand, I will wait with patience.
xx
Lily
@Cristina K.
your nokia cellphone work verywell on tinyXP, just install nokia PC suite on it…:)
Hi again Ron! I supplied the link as a cliackable one in my name but here it is:
Oh, by the way, I’d die to try your next version out! I don’t care if it’s gonna be an “official Ron-release” as long as I get to test it alongside Lily. And I’ll post it at my site for measures if it’s interesting mate. Just let me know ok?
Best regards,
HanDerre
Hola Ron
Descargue e instale la imagen, funciona muy bien mi AAO segun tus instrucciones.
Cuando sacaras tu nueva version, me apunto
Gracias man muy buen aporte
15Ene09 / Ecuador
Ron!!!!
Miracle Worker!
Now everything is working fine! … Thanks SO much for your wonderful work!! I was almost giving up my Acer AAO to buy a HP Mini Note 2133, but it would be a little too expensive for just a ultraportable notebook to take it to the Uni …
I think Linux Linpus is a little bit faster than this small Tiny XP version, but it’s nothing that I would complain so much about. I need this thing just for taking notes at class and some Internet surfing and e-mail work …. It’s pretty fine for me!
I have just to try to configuire it to print wirelessly (as I do with my HP Pavilion) and to try my Nokia N95 .. I think now is just a child’s work …. hehehe
Thanks again!
Ron,
Additional information on my “new” AAO, after the instalations of your TinyXP Image:
1) Everything works perfetc. I installed also the Portuguese (Brazilian) keyboard and is working fine with MS Word 2003.
2) I could manage to install my HP Photosmarth C3180, and even better, to make it work wirelessly through my D-LINK 524-UP router! I can prent wirelessly (I couldn’t do that with Linpus).
3) The only problem I had was with Nokia PC Suite for my N95 cellphone. I could install the most recent software for the Nokia website, but when I made the first connection, and Windows was installing the connectivity USB cable, I got this error: “There was a problem installing this hardware: CDC comms interface. An error occourred during the installation of the device. A service installation service in this INF is invalid”
I can manage the Nokia PC suite, but I am not able to connect through a 3G connection, since the PC Suite informs me that there is no modem installed! I have repeated the same procces in my HP Pavilion Notebbok and works perfect (What I have done wrong in the TinyXP? heheh)…
4) I have not tested yet the Outlook to see if there is a problem with the POP3 thing. I will report later!
Oh, and how I am a boring person! I just forgot to say that all I need now (besides the Nokia N95 working fine) is an antivirus. I found 3 FREE antivirus: AGV-Free Edition, Avira Antivirus and Avast anti-virus. I could not lokate (even using google) the KingSoft Internet Suite 9 that you talked about. Which one of this would be better for your TinyXP Image? I sincerely would prefer a free version, to avoid issues with registry ….
well that’s amazing because the first thing google finds when you put that in is the program here is the link to it at downloads.com
http://www.download.com/Kingsoft-Internet-Security-9/3000-2239_4-10867404.html
Ouahh!! … That’ s not amazing, but weird and funny, because when I put that on Google (I took care to copy and paste from here to not make spelling errors) the only page Google found was exatcly THIS blog … huehue …
Ron,
Now I can give you a complete report of my installation of your TinyXP Image.
1) I have no trouble in making the bootable USB stick. It was a very simple operation. The installation also worked fine. Very fast, I can say.
2) In found it amazing, hehe, as I said above. I was able to install my HP printer and to make it wireless through the router, the Real One Player, and the Windows Live Messenger. Everything works fine.
3) The only thing that did not worked was:
3.a) the Nokia N95 PC suite: I could installed it but some parts of it went missing (hardware installation): “CDC comms interface” and the 3G modem. I have even unistalled and reinstalled the English version, but it did not worked. But I did the same process in my HP pavilion and there was no errors.
3.b) Email!!! –> OUtlook 2003 does not work: there is no way to send or receive from any of my e-mail accounts. The same goes to Tunderbird. The only thing that works as an e-mail program is the Windows Live E-mail… What a pity about the Outllook!
But even with this problems, I really loved tour work! … I finally could get rid fo that Linpus. You are a WONDER!!
)
@Cristina K.
try to using this Version of nokia PC suite 6.84.10.3
it came with may nokia E51, and its work fine too with nokia N78..
i had no trouble at all
I have a 4 partitions on my 160gb drive: linpus, swap file, windows7. Is it possible to install your image to the other partition, or does your image wipe the whole hard disk? Thanks
Ron,
I solved the problem with my Mokia N95 …. I couldn’t find a trustworth site to download the Nokia PC Suite 6.84.10.3, since this file I could not find at Nokia Site. So I decided to install the Nokia NSeries PC Suite instead… The 3G connection worked, but now I am tempted to do all over again (which means a complete reinstallation of your image) since this new package from Nokia came with tons of softwares that I would never use …. I am still trying to fix the Outlook problem, so I can make a total reinstallation once and for all ….rs… Also trying to decide which antivirus to install (Avira – Avast – Kingsoft — the two first are free) …
Have nice weekend!
I mean, my NOKIA … hehe
Ron, thanks a lot for this great image. It took me a while to figure everything out but now its running smoothly. I am amazed how quickly the Office apps start up! Awesome job!!!
I have two question.
(1) What is the difference between “stand by” and “hibernate” in respect to the SDD and battery life?
(2) Further, does anybody have the latest version of “fancontrol” (I think its V1.6) running? Is it any better then the one that comes with the image (V0.9beta)? When I want to install the latest fancontrol, do I have to uninstall that DLL first and reinstall the one that comes with the download or do I simply just run the fancontrol program without installing the DLL? In case it matters, I have BIOS 3309 installed.
Thanks for the info, helped me a lot on my AAO!
Just downloaded, made the USB, but when rebooting it says:
Disk error
Press any key to restart
I’ve already got another version of Windows installed, does this matter?
Ron and all interested! (Take care, long post)
My “final” report about my experience with Ron’s image:
I have spent my past two days “playing” (almost as a child) with this TinyXP image on my AAO. I must say that my AAO now is really a likable tihng. I had made two installations, since my first one was some kind of a “let me try and mess it up completely”.
As I said before, I had no trouble in doing the bootable USB stick (besides not knowing what a “rar” file was … huahua). The two installations worked pretty fine, and it itook less than 10 minutes each (in fact what really went slow was the files’ download – it took more than 50 minutes — of course this step I did only once).
In the first installation, I added a lot of things, other things went wrong and such, so I decided to do a new “clean” installation.
In the second installation, I had alrealdy a plan or “map” in mind to what I should install, etc.. So my list was:
1) Portuguese (Brazilian) Keyboard
2) Balloon tips
3) HP Photosmart C3180 printer (and configure it with my wireless router)
4) Real Player One 11
5) Adobe Reader 9
6) Nokia “NSeries” PC Suite (for N95 cellphone) >>> In the first installation, PC Suite 7.1 won’t recognize N95 as a 3G modem. So I tryied the N Series. It worked perfectly. But in the second image’s installation, I installed only the “OneTouch” package for the PC suite, leaving out all other softwares (such as vídeo and photo, etc — I just need the Nokia as a 3G modem as a secondary internet connection. The other stuff, like file transfer and management, I can make in my “normal” notebook.
Removed Outlook Conector – It seems that in my first installation there was a messy problem after I opened it – The “normal” Outlook did not opened anymore; there was always an insolvable error.
7) Windows Live Messenger – I installed only the Messenger, leaving out all the rest. Mayble I will install the Windows Live Mail, if I cannot find a way to fix the Outlook problem. Thunderbird came with the same problem as Outlook, so I did not installed it for the second atempt. For now, I am just using webmail system to see my e-mail accounts.
Avast Home Edition Free Anti Virus — I had made several atempts to install the Kingsoft Internet Security 9, but I could not get the registry key to the 180 days free trial… I think mostly because it is weekend time and in Asia (Australia) should be past midnight the time I was trying to install… hehehehe. I suppose that to get a registry key should be an automatic process, but who knows! Maybe theere was a problem in their server and there was nobody there to look on … hehe
The ONLY PROBLEM:
– The Outlook thing …. It’s not possible to send or to receive any mail. But there is something bizarre about this: when I open the program, an automatic initial “send and receive” mail runs, and AT THIS MOMENT (with no messages in the “outgoing folder”), the Outlook CAN reach the smtp server. I mean, at least with the SMTP, it seems a problem with the message itself and not with finding the SMTP servere … BIZARRE!!! (The POP server is not found anyway) ….
– There was another “happening”: When I scanned for the first time the SDD drive with Avast, I found 6 alarms of virus/malwares (3 files, duplicated alarms):
>> 1 rootkit in WINDOWS\Temp\KAVA.EXE\$INSTDIR : kaeunpack.dat and
>> 1 Vírus (HTML:lframe-gen) in WINDOWS\Temp\KAVA.EXE\$INSTDIR\ksg: bsn20712.kgs
>> 1 “descompactatiom bomb” impossible to scan in WINDOWS\Temp\KAVA.EXE\$INSTDIR\linux\rootfs.gz: rootfs2
I have no idea of what may be these alerts, and since I have read somewhere that Avast sometimes gives a “false positive”, I did not took any actions regarding these suspect files. I will google for it to know more about. Maybe it’s just me, since I have installed some stuffs BEFROE the antivirus, what a silly thing, now I see….rs
ANYWAY, I am amazed and pretty much content with Ron’s image. It gave my AAO a “new life”, since I was almost in the process of giving up with Linpus! Amazing work, Thanks so much, Ron!
regarding Outlook etc. Windows Mail works fine for me, and picks up all my hotmail and googlemail, and works on Virgin too. To get it to work I had to install the Firefox Windows Update addon, run it so Microsoft updates it, then Windows Mail standalone installed perfectly and works great.
Only problem I’ve had really is wth Flash on MSN Messenger. winks like the animated knock etc., say they need the Flash plugin to work, but I’ve tried installing it and it won;t properly. Even going to the Flash website doesn’t work.
Otherwise fab! J
Ron, internet is connected when the usb stick is made with freedos as it downloads some files from the internet.
does the ghost.exe go onto the root of the memory stick?
still getting the Disk Error. Any ideas?
Yeah I used this USB to load windows first time. When I did that I used this guide here: http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installing-windows-xp-from-usb-thumb.html
Would what I did to the USB with this guide prevent it booting properly here?
I also have an external hard drive, can I just use that or do I have to make a partition first?
Woah!! … about the supposed viruses and rootkits I found with Avast>>> First, I used PcClean to errase the “Windows Temp Files” where the things were found. Then I open some apps, like FireFox, Word, Real One, and some folders in “My Computer” just to make a test. and then I rebooted and run Avast again. It found nothing, being totally clean.
Then, I went to do some research: I browsed every site of known Anti Viruses Softwares, such as Symantec (Norton), McAffe, Avira, Karspersky, and even Avast, etc, to search their viruses database and I found nothing regarding “kava.exe”, “kaeunpack.dat”, “bsn20712.ksg” and “rootfs2″. Then, I ggogle it for kava.exe, and I found some 168 pages, mostly in some asian language. Some pages in English and Spanish only refered the kava.exe as a registry virus, but nothing too much sotrongly conclusive. I suspected that it was not a virus at all. Then google it for “bsn20712.ksg”, and WOAH, I found a very few sites in asian language again, and all I could guess is that these files may be part of Kingsoft Internet Security 9 …. Since I atempted to install it some 4 or 5 times without success (I could not get the registry key), I unistalled the parts that were aready in the system and installed Avast … Maybe it is for that cause it was found in the “Temp” folder. So, as Ron have said, I think it was just files from previous installations of some package software. In fact, it seem totally possible that it is just a “feud” between the two AV!
I really have an “issue” with AntiViruses, specially because of haoxes and false positives. Once I was too innocent to “buy” the cheap haox of the “little bear icon” … huahua … (I suppose this is a known hoax still) ….
Excellent work Ron. Thank you.
One flaw, aa1fancontrol causes a harmless error in acpiec.sys. The error writes to the event log about 16 times per minute. This can be resolved with a patch embedded in another fan control program called a1ctl.
Also, there is a new version of aa1fancontrol with more functionality.
Why no ie?
Ron, first I salut you and thank you for all your work and afforts. OS runs very smooth.
The first time I had some problems with the USB stick. I found out that (apparantly) not every USB stick is usable for booting. So, if the computer don,t accept your USB stick, just try to prepare an other one.
groeten,
Ron,
Just a silly question regrding the Outllook: I was reading something about errors at the MS site, and it seems that some of theses errers in Outlook 2003 are caused be the removal of the Oulook Express… Since I don’t want to install the IE thing, could you just tell me if this information may be true?
By the way, te error I get is “unknown error 0×80040154″ I have google for it I found nothibg conclusive … hehe
Wow! Ron, you are a superstar! It took 5:14 seconds to roll this image onto my 120Gb HDD AAO 150AB. Well done, Sir!
Also, the support you provide thru this page is excellent. Again, WELL DONE!
Hi Im sorry to have this question… i have downloaded the tiny xp but it is looking for a password. where can i get it? could someone give me i dont know how to see Ron[nl] i dont know what it means. thanks for the help.
I’m really sorry to hear that Ron but I support you. Family will always come first! Besides, I can’t think of a single issue about your release that haven’t been covered here already so people should find answers regardless of the problem. The question remains if they have the brainpower to press “CTRL+F” to quickly find solutions by typing in keywords though.
Anyway, I just thought I’d tell you I’m running Photoshop Elements 7.0 on my AAO now. Yes, your release IS that good when you tweaked it correctly! Just tried it for the hell of it to see how slow editing pics would be but I was pleasently surprised. It wasn’t slow at all provided I dont have any other prog’s running and to be honest, when I’m editing pics THATS what I wanna do thus have nothing else to disturb me.
You’re a champ Ron and if you should decide to go public with your 2nd release I’ll be first in line to test, tweak and benchmark it for feedbacks to you mate!

thx.
Hi Ron,
Thanks for the brilliant image. Looking forward to the next one.
I’ve just had a strange problem.
I changed my user password and the found myself locked out!
I had not data on my aspire so it was not a problem and I’ve just done a re-install. I just wondered if this was a bug with the image or with my fingers!
Thanks Again, keep up the excellent work
Peter
I experience problems under TinyXP when I insert 4GB SD card into the right-hand side card reader.
The SD card works fine under my laptop also with XP and under Mac OS X it reads/writes fine too. So the card isnt the problem.
When I plug it in my AAO it gets recognized ok (at least most of the time) but when I want to access it it takes forever and most of the time XP just freezes.
Do I need to install different drivers?
Thanks Ron. Your work is greatly appreciated. The Aspire One looks/runs and rocks perfectly with your creation.
Reglof:
I suggest u try to reinstall the Ricoh card-reader driver, I bet that corrects it.
best regards,
HanDerre
Hi Ron,
I just read your last post. I can understand the reasons why your leaving, as I have been reading most of your posts and visiting this site regurlarly.
I have to say, I’m going to miss visiting this site, as it became like part of the day, lol. But I wish you all the best and don’t forget me
lol. I dont think I ever gave you my email, but here it is, incase you want me to test you next release: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks for all your hard work!
Lily
Hi Ron,
Re Password problem. After a full re-install I’ve found that my password problem seems to arise when I use a # in the 7th position of a 13 character pass word for my normal user name log in. This does not happen if I try the same thing as “Administrator”. It’s therefore very easy to avoid. I’ve not experimented with other characters in this position. I wonder if anyone else has come across this?
Peter
@HanDerre,
where do I get the correct Ricoh card-reader driver from? I downloaded the SD drivers from the Acer site. Are these different drivers than the Rico drivers?
Reglof:
They should be the same but I downloaded mine from Acer PanAm and I have no issues. I use a SanDisk Ultra IV 8Gb in my left slot and a Kingston Secure Digital 8Gb (both class 6) in the right slot.
Anyway, here is the link to the download:
Best regards,
HanDerre
OH!!! it´s was great!!! tks a lot RON!!! like say in mexico “GRACIAS CAMARADA”…
Sorry I appear to have posted this elsewhere by mistake Ooops.
Hi Ron, I know this has probably been asked but I have downloaded the ghost disk image and unpacked to find the 3 files and the readme, I have a linpus 120gb HDD version of the aspire one and would like to dualboot from another section of the hard drive to allow me to keep linux as well. If I find the procedure to do this, could I still use your version of the windows tiny xp image? Where would be the best place to find this procedure?
Many thanks
Exuptoy:
Just google it and you’ll get tons of answers. Also, the AAO Users-forum is always a great resource. And yes, it’s no problems having both LinpusLite alongside Ron’s on the sam drive. Of course you’ll have to partition your 120Gb into several partitions. My suggestion would be:
Linpus: 5Gb
Ron’s: 5Gb
Program Files: 15Gb
Back-Up: 10Gb
Media (mp-3’s, video’s, pictures, wallpapers): 80Gb
Best regards,
HanDerre
Thanks Han,
Are you telling me my media will be accessible from both os’s, linpus and windows? Thats awesome. Will this cause any problems especially with windows which tends to put stuff all over the place when installing.
Regs
Lyn
Han,
Sorry to be a pest but I assume the media partition will need to be fat32 or fat for linux to be able to access it also and the windows could be fat or ntfs yeah?
Also is it only windows and linux that need to be primary partitions and the rest extended partitions? Please excuse me as I am still learning. Looking around the net this seems to be a slightly complicated process. I am slightly concerned about using utilities such as grub etc as I am not used to this sort of stuff.
Many thanks
Lyn
Hi again Lyn!
For your media-drive I suggest you indeed format to a version usable by both Linux and Win. So the only viable option is FAT.
Once you done this you will have access to all the files from both OS’s.
I found that putting the files you want access to wether you run Linux or Win into a specified folder makes things so much easier. I have a separate folders for all my media-files stored on my external hard-drive and when I wanna watch a movie or old episodes of Top Gear on my AAO I just copy them over to a similar folder on the right SD-Card (the left one is reserved for system-utilities, memory-expand and back-up) and delete it when I’m done. It works great for me and my AAO have never been better.
As a matter of fact I’m running PhotoShop CS4 Extended on it now!!! It took me almost an hour to get it installed but when installed it loads faster than PhotoShop Elements 7.0! I use PS to make my own RocketDock Icons and if you’re interested they can be found here:
http://rocketdock.com/user/29617/addons/popular
In addition I’m ONLY running these apps:
RocketDock
DreamAquarium (awesome screensaver)
FireFox
WinAmp
7-zip (lighter and faster than winrar)
CCleaner
Defraggler (these two=same as TuneUp 2009 but faster/better)
Billionton Bluetooth (through an USB-Dongle)
and
NIS 2009 (so far so good, 2009=lighter and faster than 2008)
I kept the Foxit PDF-Reader and uninstalled the one from Adobe that came with CS4, I have latest editions of Java (for my online-banking needs) as well as shockwave and flash-plug-ins.
Don’t need anything else, my AAO is for entertainment “on the go” and creative purposes in PhotoShop. I am safe, secure and fast and if I need to read my mail I have Gmail. My AAO now completely satisfies all my needs and I love it more than ever!
Best regards,
HanDerre
Does anyone of you guys encountered your AAO shutdowns while playing a game? mine does after 30mins to 1 hour the unit shutdowns by itself the game is Mystery case files ravenhearst its just a small game i just dont know why it happens.
anyone experienced this?
Update:
Uninstalled NIS2009 ’cause it’s NOT faster or lighter than before as Symantec states. It caused my AAO to freeze alltogether and eventually I couldn’t even get on internet. I have all my apps and progs stored on the left SD-card (SanDisk Ultra III 8Gb which have F: as station-letter) and when I tried to acess internet i got an error:
jar:///f:http://www.google.com……..bla,bla,bla….error
or some shit like that (pardon my french and also pardon to french people reading this) so I uninstalled it faster than the fat lady sang and re-installed KIS with the 180-day trial serial. Also worth mentioning here is that if you uninstall KIS, clean up your registry using CCleaner afterwards and then re-installing KIS you get a NEW 180-day trial right off the bat!
Nil:
Can’t help you there, I haven’t tried any games on mine. I only use it for Internet, listening to music and watching mowies, creative work in PS CS4 and checking my mail and messages from various forums. Good luck with the troubleshoot mate.
Best regards,
HanDerre

Ron[nl],
Many, many thanks for a great job on this adaptation of TinyXP for the Aspire. Just got into this in this last week and it’s works wonderfully. Just for information, I ran into this issue with BITS on trying to get Windows Update going. What it takes is the two DLLs – qmgr.dll & qmgrprxy.dll. Both were missing in my image. Then register both DLLs and restart the netbook. Then run services.msc and find the BITS service and set it for automatic. Restart again and you are running. FYI. Going to miss your responses on this blog. Good luck and best wishes.
Mike
Mike,
I’ve been trying to get windows update going but can’t. Where do I get these 2 dll files from and where do I put them? Cheers mate.
Here, some mirrors. Also files to add spanish language, and the drivers on a separate file, if you wanna try another flavor of XP. Password for the TinyXp is the same.

Why do you want to enable Win Update in the first place? This image is 100% functional after install.
Best regards,
HanDerre
Harj,
Sorry for a slow response but I am in the middle of an ice storm and loss all electric and DSL @ 4AM this morning.
If you search the MS Knowledge base, you will find several references to these DLLs in conjuction to the BITS service (try article # 883822 – my notes were a bit vague). Two (maybe three) have a download to the latest version. The downloads gave me a little trouble because they thought I was at a later version. Rather than chase this further, I copied the two files from a full XP on a desktop I had and put them in C:\windows\system32. Then register the two DLLs. Reboot. Then start SERVICES.MSC and change this service from manual to automatic. Reboot and the BITS services will be running and I have had no problems since.
G’day
Mike
Installed the image on my new Acer One yesterday (didn’t even bother to look at the Linux software) and I must say: It works fine!
Of course there are sometimes small delays when the SSD is accessed, but they are minor. (From threads on some forums I understood that a standard installation of XP is very sluggish on the SSD)
Cheers for Ron!
One little question: Because XP kept warning on startup that it was low on virtual memory I configured a minimum of 250MB and a maximum of 250MB. Is that okay or should I keep it on zero and ignore the warning?
Ron you are a god. This image works perfect. Thanks.
hi ron i installed ur tiny xp there just one thing how do i get the memory better becuz it keeps crashin any help will b gd ?
I’ve downloaded the rar file and extracted it to 5 more rar files. When I extract any one of these using the password provided I get 4 more files – ghost.exe; Step By Step Instruction to install.txt; TINYXPAAO.GHO and unetbootin-windows-275.exe. Are these all the same files or are they different in some way? Do I need all 5 rar files or can I just choose any one of them? I saw a comment about this earlier (39 | Susan, November 7th, 2008 at 7:07 pm) but I’m still confused as to exactly what to do.
Yeah once you’ve unzipped the files part1 to the desktop or a separate file then you do not need to unzip files 2-5. I have just done this install and it completed from start to finish (after plugging in the usb key and selecting the boot sequence) in approx 5 minutes. AMAZING. It is quick as well. ![]()
Thanks Ron……….and HanDerre for your input. *Applause*
virtual memory what do i do with it it the linux aspire one that i changed to xp but im not sure wat to put in the boxes can enyone help me with this ?
I’m sorting out a 8GB SSD/512MB/Linpus AAO for my wifes friend
with all she wanted being
– MSN (Done – ready installed + aMSN)
– Mobile broadband (Gnome PPP and now mobile partner)
– webcam to work with flash based chat rooms (not wokring even after loads of google research)
So I switched to XP with your image
– webcam on flash based chat sites (one flash update sorted
)
– Mobile broadband (insert dongle, loads it’s own drivers
)
– MSN (wanted the real deal… IE install fails and so does MSN)
– Can’t type cos there is no british keymap included
How do I get IE to install (without reading the MS troubleshooting doc that makes war & peace look like a leaflet)
How do I add keymaps/layouts?
Cool got MSN working
Just need to sort the keyboard layout
Thanx for the image, it runs very smoothly on this 8GB SSD/512MB AAO.
Just need to find a nice small footprint Virus/Firewall solution
Any chance I could get some help with a Danish keyboard Lay-out?
I’m really struggling getting this to work :S
Exuptoy:
Hehe, I’m not sure what you are referring to but I will try and help anytime I think I have the solution to any inqueries here seeing as Ron don’t support this release anymore.
I see this as a “pay-back” to Ron. He is the genius, he made this and now he is working on another release that just MIGHT be an official “Ron-Release.
Now raise your hands those of you that do NOT want to see a 2nd edition! No?? Noone? Thought so!
Thanks anyway!

Hey Christian!
Can’t you simply use the norwegian layout mentioned in post #203? It ought to work for danish seeing as the letters are identical? Or am I mistaking here?
Best regards,

Fixed the keyboard layout
went into c:\windows\system32
renamed kbdus.dll kbdus-old.dll
renamed kdbusx.dll kbdusx.dll
renamed kbduk.dll kbdus.dll
renamed kbdukx.dll kbdusx.dll
not the best solution… more a hit it with a big hammer kinda method but it works
To John Nelson: look at post 76 for keyboard layout fix.
Try Avira anti-virus, free and fast.
Thanx for that rob… thought I’d total read though all these posts..
I’ll try Avira on the SSD machine as Comodo’s CIS won’t install properly on it (Defense+ says it’s broke and the virus scanner is fudged)
Trying CIS on the HDD AA1 my brother-in-law bought for 150GBP at ASDA… I just did a bare no drivers TinyXP Rev 09 install on that then restored the drivers I’d backed up from the SSD machine with Rons install on.
I’ve installed Tiny XP on both 8GB SSD and 160GB HDD. The only difference being to change the HDD to NTFS file system and allow some virtual memory. Just experimenting with eboostr at the moment not that I find it slow anyway. Both machines having 512ram.
Just doing some experimenting with Ron’s TinyXP as I’ve got a 8GB SSD and a 160GB hdd. I was running performance test 6.1 (download the 30 day trial and compare) and got some surprising results. The CPU results were similar with L2 cache enabled or not. The ssd/hdd results were 78/447 (disk mark) so the hdd wins hands down.
The surprising result was the 3D simple graphics with the SSD scoring 209 compared to the HDD only scoring 16.5. And yes you can notice the difference if you watch the tests. Anyone got an explanation as to the difference in graphics results. Most of the other results were similar.
Please download and run the tests to compare
Ron,
Just a quick question about the fan control… are there any updates on that software coz i experienced shutdown on my AAO once the unit becomes hot… someone suggested to me to turn it off, upon doing so it did’nt crash anymore….
in other forums i heard about actcl1 another fan controller is this ok? if so where can i get one?…
thanks in advance…
great work on your tiny xp… really really useful….
Nil:
I haven’t experienced what you desribed anytime and I installed the updated version mentioned in the “additional software” section. There is the latest version.
I installed PhotoShop CS4 Extended on my AAO and I can’t imagine any application that would require more resources from the CPU or RAM than that. So my suggestion is to download the latest version and your problems should be solved.
Let me know how it works out for you, ok?
Best regards,
HanDerre
Hi Ron,

Hi Ron,
I got your Tinyxp. I’ve installed it. I install firefox3. It work, fast but I have some problem.
1. It produces sound (like a fast running engine). It makes noise
every few minutes. It lasts 2-3 seconds.
2.It becomes hotter than before.
3. Avira antivirus is now allowed to install. It stops in the middle of install and it suggests my machine might be needed upgrade of Bios. Never upgraded since I bought 6 months ago.
Detail of computer:
-A0A 110 Aw
-8Gb SSD
What should I do?
Thanks.
Excelente… se agradece Ron!
Saludos.
ada g tiny vista untuk aspire one gw?
Hey Ron, i’ve just got one question before i try your tinyXP image from the pirate bay. Can i run Quake 3 Arena on my Aspire One with your version of Tinyxp?
@ mats
yes you can, runs great.
ive now been on it for a couple of hours but its just impossible to do. i cant seem to format my usb to “fat”. initially i just did it via “administrative tools” to fat32 as nothing else was available, then went on to use “unetbootin-windows-275.exe” and yes my internet was connected. i stuck it in the acer, pressed f2 went into “boot” made my usb first then im not sure what i did, but i did find myself looking at “missing file UBNINIT”. i looked back at this blog saw “brad” and his msg and reckoned that i should use this HP utility. so i followed the instructions (didnt know why i had to copy the windows 98 files but i did, including the cd folder as it was in the main folder) stuck it in the acer and then found myself looking at a page saying “missing driver” wtf? a second time i pressed random buttons and found myself looking at a norton symatec ghost thing. wtf again? please can somebody help m, i must be doing something which no one else is dong, considering i seem to be the only one with the problem. oy yeah is there another quicker way which will change a usb to bootable? thanks again
really its just not working. ive tried it from the beginning and all i get is “could not find ramdisk image :/ubinit” what does that fu$££ng mean. im not swearing at anyone just going nuts at the mo
ive used the HP tool, copied all the files stuck it in the usb but it says that the drivers are missing.. no idea, but i will not stop untill i get xp on it, even if it means to stick a picture of xp on a broken acer, actually i hope it doesnt break.
i did it!! i just messed around a bit, then figured that that norton program was what i needed. so how many hours did i bloody waste.. oh well, thanks ron it looks great. problem though, sorry if its been said before but there is no wireless light coming at the corner of the pc. is this fixable. ive checked and it does pick up a single, though i havent checked if it works as i myself dont use wireless. thanks.
Ron Thank’s for this excelent work
Greetings from Argetina!
It really is amazing how people seem to be unable to follow or even read instructions. It’s all covered thoroughlly in Ron’s description at the top and if you follow it you really can’t go wrong…

Some people go totally banana’s if they can’t use the mouse anymore and are confronted with a CLI.
They should contact their local computer nerd instead of trying this theirselves.

Thx for the fix on the Danish keyboard layout =)
I have also the AA1 11- with SSD. First the TinyXP image is fantastisc! Fast, but very complete!
I had also troubles with spontanious shutdowns. I had bios version 3305, but i was testing why the AA1 suddenly shutdowns. First updated tot 3309, but with some heavier programs (3dmark) within 3 or 4 minutes the AA1 also shutdowns.
Then i close the AA1 fan controler (v0.9) and now i have run a lot of 3dmark test and he is now stable!!
Conclusion, bios version v3305 and v3309 will maby suffer from fan control program. Now it isnt runing, but the AA01 doens’t make any noise!
Then i close the AA1 fan controler (v0.9) and now i have run a lot of 3dmark test and he is now stable!!
o my god
for a IT highschool student your so………………
try version 1.6 of AA1 and take a closer look to de site from the autor
or try the link on this site
TinyXP – Additional software
Ok, thnxs for your reply Ron!
I have seen also the Fancontrol 1.6, but the fan doesn’t make too much noise now. I don’t use any fan control now!
Ron,
is it ok not to use any fan control program? for the AAO with your tiny xp running…
when i bought mine its already version 3309 so i disabled the fan control and installed the ac1ctl fan control.
thanks.
Hey Ron! Would you mind to post again this REV 09 version? The Megaupload is expired!
Thanks in advance!
Hi! i only come to nr 16)type”c:” then [Enter]
when i do that it says “bad command or filename”
what have i do wrong?
@Daniel
Maybe too simple.. but are you sure you did type only C: and not the quote signs and did you press the Enter key instead of typing [Enter]?
I have the same problem as Daniel and I have upgraded the bios with the same stick before formatting it. Maybe the issue can be the stick isn’t bootable – I’ll try the HP software and report back. Can’t wait to try this image out.
Now I’m able to open the USB stick – but I can’t run ghost it says bad command or file name. Any ideas?
Got it working now and it’s installing. Found the HP bootable software here: http://www.bootdisk.com/plan40/hpflash1.zip.
God luck
Hey Guys, and thank you ron for a great version of xp!
i just have a slight problem with it, and it is the problem about not being able to change the wallpaper.
i have read somewhere that i could change the wallpaper name to bliss.jpg and remove the other one. i just dont know where to find the other picture file, and its removed from the wallpaper options too.
i have modified my acer one with a 30 gig hdd, so i’m not using
the ssd anymore, though i cant see why that should be a problem.
any new tips regarding this issue? or could someone link me to the post at aspireoneuser where it’s discussed? i just couldnt find it there
Vince NL
@Daniel
Maybe too simple.. but are you sure you did type only C: and not the quote signs and did you press the Enter key instead of typing [Enter]?
Yes i´m sure, I have also tried everything from a to z.
But i used a usb cd reader so i have xp on my aspire one now:)
But thanks anyway =)
Quick’n'dirty fix for 3G USB Modem…
First of all, thanks Ron – Installed TinyXP today and it makes my AAO (SSD, 1.5GbRAM) sing and dance.
I couldn’t get my Three Mobile Huawei 220 modem going. There are messages in Dr Watson about exceptions (sorry not a coder to interpret).
The drivers for the modem installed ok, so I just configured a dial-up connection at max speed, set the number to *99#, no username or password and connected – it works fine.
Thanks Ron!!! I was about to throw my new AA1 out the window after spending three hours trying to install the codecs that would let me play a divx video in Linpus. Ten minutes installing your TinyXP made all my problems go away.
First of all, i would like to thank you for your work Ron, your tiny xp has literaly saved the life of my aao.
and as you can see it was something ppl who owned these ssd ones were in desperate need of.
I see you have been doing fixes for the keyboard layout for people. Actually I think Im probably the last one on earth you haven’t fixed the layout for.
You see Im from Iceland. Would you be so kind to post a fix for the Icelandic keyboard lay-out?
Once again, thank you for your work. This is exactly what I have been looking for.
H-r[ur (see! no icelandic letters!)
Hey Ron!
really good install i comented a while back, everythings been fine for ages, however i have now tried to connect this via the vga cable to a projector for display purposes, and the hotkey doesn’t seem to work.
just wondering if anybody else has tried this and what luck they have had or if there are any fixes.
i know the ports and cables work, because through the options i can select two screens and it comes up on the other one, however not the same as on the laptop screen.
Hope this is ok
Alex [Fredo]
Although quite experienced in cyber stuff, I am new to the concept of “torrents”.
Trying to download Ron’s superb Tiny XP to rescue my AcerOne I was aghast at the slow download speeds and so my question is:
Is there a site [or some kind person] where I can download the file in it’s entirity
If not, what is YOUR favourite download location to get the file in under a day
Many thanks for any help
P
I still have Ron’s original files, which I could host on Rapidshare as 5 RAR’d 100Mb files.
But as this is Ron’s project, and as he has put so much time and effort into this, I can only do this with his permission.
Cheers,
Kevin.
Thanks Kevin – it’s certainly the original Ron’s files that’d I like directly or via Rapidshare. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he will agree.
Thanks
PeterG
i’ve created a archive which allows you to add the belgian (period) keyboard layout. You can find it here: http://3azaluger.izfree.com/va/BelgianLayout.zip
Ron is there an easy way to reinstall the bits service so i can install visual studio express?
Hi Ron,
I would appreciated if you can add Croatian keyboard layout.
Btw, excellent work
Ron’s TinyXP Image is slow
I have A110 8GB SSD with XP
Ron’s version i noticed a pause and stuttering when browsing the web with firefox or IE or moving around windows explorer, a constant lagging pause
I’m thankful he made this and i’m thankful it was easy to install but over the past few days i managed to install my own version of Nlite and Windows xp and the differences are huge, no more pausing stuttering, computer use is much much smoother
virtual memory i left installed and on, i notice on Ron’s version its disabled
i did no memory tweaks, just windows defaults
prefetch is enabled
If anyone else out there using SSD has these pausing problems, look into installing a version of your own with Nlite and a USB stick
I was wondering if I could use my SD card to boot this? I can obtain an USB stick but I’d like to do this tonight if possible.
@ Mark Anthony:
You should definitely get your money back from Ron, dude.
I second that Yo Mamma! I mean, none of us can imagine the agony Mark Anthony must have suffered so it would only be fair that Ron in fact paid him a substantial amount of $’s as a compensation.
Also, Mark Anthony have clearly appointed himself spokesman for all the not-so-bright brains out there that can’t get Ron’s otherwise fantastic XP to function properly so if I was Ron I’d get the most expencive lawyer with the biggest ego as soon as possible to avoid a mass-lawsuit for all the whineys with sub-zero computer-knowledge…
Finally: No Mark Anthony, Sarcasm is NOT a beach in Spain, nor is it a fast car…
Best regards,
HanDerre
Huawei E220 USB Modem problem solved.
Thank you Trevor J.
Works great with making a new Dailup Connection
@ Mark Anthony…yor problem is also discussed in earlier posts and afterwards it was because the person did some additional software installs and uninstalled them not properly leaving the stutter (or as he spoke of freezes)…he did the install again, tweaked some FireFox settings, which I didnt do ie temp files…and it was speedy again. Did you keep using FAT32?
I find it hard to believe that without tweaks your system works faster on the Nlited version….if so my CONGRATS!!!…maybe you should share your image to make all the users more happy with their AAO.
I second that disabling Prefetch is not a real noticable difference.
I,ve tried everything. Usb-stick, sd-cards and cdboot but noting works when i should do: 16) type “c:” then [ENTER] (c: is the drive letter from the USB stick)
It says:
bad command or File name
Where can I get this Ron’s “dreadful” version? The link is not working anymore and I’d like to be disappointed like Mark Anthony did
Well, i guess i’m too lazy to build my own version so an already made one would be really nice !!
Well, I installed correctly on my A1, and it works Great! Even with the spanish keyboard layout no problems whatsoever.
I do notice the fan is more ‘hearable’ than it was before… does the cpu run hotter or is it just the fan spins at higher speeds? (or was I just deaf until now XD)
Thank you Ron, there’s a great effort in this. Kudos to you!
Problem solved using the Swedish language files you had uploaded for Simon! Thanks.
Tried IE TAB and Windows Update Addons with Firefox 3.01 but could not get WindowsUpdate pas that Update Windows Update Components Genuine Advantage bla bla.
@Alejandro
Without Fancontrol the fan runs continuously at low speed and with Fancontrol it doesn’t run until the temperature reaches the treshold and then it runs at high(er) speed till the temperature is below the treshold again.
Ron(nl)
thanks for this!
I bought AAO a couple of weeks ago and the loaded windows stopped working after two days. Got frustrated with various Linuxes – I couldn’t get WiFi to work and this is somehow essential for this machine. TinyXP works perfectly now. Thanx!
The remaining issue is the support for Slovenian keyboard & language since some special characters are involved.
Could anybody please help me with that? I would be very grateful.
Has anyone tried dual booting with Mac OS X? Possible? Love this TinyXP install, want to keep it, but can not say I am not a little intrigued by trying out Mac OS X on AAO. Have heard something about wifi not working on it though. That would be a HUGE downside.
To change the wallpaper, just right click on the image and choose set as wallpaper background.
Hey!
This version is SLOW @ Acer Aspire One 1,6 ghz and only 512 mb ram?
Works good at that?
Thomas
hey there… I have found a version somewhere that had 4 files: 1 how-to, the unetbootin.exe, one ghost.exe file and the tynyxpaao.gho. I follow all instructions but I keep having an ‘Error 17′ when trying to boot from the flash drive… I formated it under windows vista, may that be the problem?… well, Vista itself is a big problem so I am just guessing
@Yo Mamma
the piratebay.org torrent is rev 02, who’s got a torrent link t rev09
Hey!
I download the TinyXP Rev02, but i need Rev09?
Or is it the same?
I was intall tiny XP, but detected riskware hidden program system32 cmdow in kaspersky, what about this, dangerously?
why format in Fat not NTFS, what is its gain.
thx
I have read the 500 posts and tried everything suggested but Windows Update continues to fail.
Has anyone managed to make Windows Update work?
On logon this version of XP runs a Group Security Policy. This has not been mentioned by Ron.
This looks very suspicious as I do not know what policies are being applied.
Hey!
Tinyxp workz good, BUT i cant connect to the USB modem E220!
I try what it on this page but dident work.
Some maby help me? :S
Ron, I have a big problem. Im eraser all partition of to my Acer One 110 and formated the disk whit win98.
But now I cant install win98 or Xp or Linpus from my pendriver.
Cant you please helpme?
Thanks.
Ron., Om fix the problem.
Very Thanks.
Ron., im fix the problem.
Very Thanks.
Guys, I had that “Error 17″ message when trying to boot from usb and I figured out it was because I formatted the Usb with Vista with “exFAT” option (thought exFAT would be FAT16 but it wasn’t). On the distribution I found with Ron’s Tiny XP the enclosed instructions said we had to format as FAT and NOT with FAT32… Well, I formatted with FAT32 and all went ok so I don’t get it. Why can’t we format the USB flash drive in FAT32 ?…
After installing I had some problems when I installed flash player (the AAO started halting… or maybe it was CPU temperature because I also installed the AA1FanControl. Anyway, I’ll check that later since I am trying out my main 3 choices for AAO OS: Linplus (works really nice, but trouble with my 3G Huawey device), Windows (not bad but makes the AAO noisier!!) and Ubuntu (heard it has some incompatibilities but I love it, so I’ll give it a try)…
Ron,
What software did you use for making the ghost image of tinyxp? thanks
Ron thanks for the work on this! I have been playing around with it for a few days and have found a workaround to those with problems updating. Windows update and microsoft update didn’t work for me, but the microsoft baseline security analyzer sort of did. It’ll provide a list of what’s missing so the updates can be DL’d and installed manually.
After getting everything updated, I tried to get outlook working wth connector for hotmail but crashed every time. Control Panel > Mail > Show profiles. Added a new profile to replace the default outlook profile and change the dropdown box to the new profile too. Now outlook loads without crashing and even updates with my hotmail folders, but unfortunately i haven’t been able to get it to download any headers or messages. If anyone can improve on this, please post
password is>>>>>>> TinyXP
password is = Ron[nl]
as an update to the customization I described last post;
I gave up on outlook 2003, and instead installed my copy of 2007 (outlook only). Initially I had the same problems accessing my hotmail, but knew that this same copy was working perfectly on my desktop. I checked my desktop version and it had no trace of connector, so I uninstalled it. Tried to setup email with a new profile again but still had no luck. I then compared my settings to my desktop outlook. The desktop was listing a separate ‘hotmail’ option in the http dropdown, whereas the aspire one only had ‘msn’ and ‘other’. I chose ‘other’ and manually entered the url from the desktop. Restarted and it works!
I have an old hotmail account, so I’m not sure if the server I am using is an old legacy feature or not, but its worth a try if you have another working outlook config to compare to.
I wonder if I could have setup outlook 2003 the same way, but I’m not willing to break a working setup to find out. I don’t notice a significant performance difference between 07 and 03 anyway.
Can someone give me a working link to download the very latest image? I find all sorts of variations when I search and I want to be sure I get the correct one…Thanks,
Steve
Hey!
I cant get Mobile Partner to works, i can install it but i dont work….
Is it som other program i can use that my HUAWEI e220 @ this XP ?
Thanks
after my AAO get fix for 3 weeks, coz something wrong with the mainboard…now they give me 3309 bios version…and its crash with fan control (0,9 and 1,6 version)…..now i am not using any fan control, is it save ron???
thx..
yes is save….i had tested 3309 as well…fancontrol is not compatible with that version….I reflashed back to 3109…..still the best one for me
I tryed both passwords, TinyXP & Ron[n1] doesnt extract, i got the torrent @ http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4670099/Ron_s_TinyXP_image_for_Aspire_One but it keeps failing to extract i must be missing something here….
disregard, typo on torrent info.. btw i got this laptop with linux, loaded xpsp3 using the instructions from komku.blogspot.com, lets just say its functional but hella slow, ill rate this after im done running installation.
Thanks Ron, it works great!!!!!
But I have just one question, how can I add the Greek Language?
Please help!!!

Awesome image Ron! My aspire one is FLYING now after using your image with the L2 cache registry update and EWF.
One question, is it possible to install or update the IE rendering engine? I don’t necessarily want the browser (it won’t install) but I need the rendering engine install for some web development.
Thanks for all the great work!

Thanks so much for this, Ron!
After 4 Linpus-Recoveries today alone, I just got this and got it to work FULLY OPERATIONAL (including your German keyboard layout, thanks for that as well) as far as I can tell
If you ever make it to Frankfurt am Main in Germany, drop me an email and I´ll buy you a beer for sure! ^^
Sadly, I have to retract my previous statement regarding the fully operational thing….
No matter what I install, I can´t get any ICQ client to work on this… any idea what I´m doing wrong, or what I can do to fix this?
I tried newest ICQ version (error message), newest Pidgin version (connects but cannot send messages to anyone)… trillian seems to work, but I really would rather use ICQ or pidgin
Just one silly question before I install your stuffs on my aspire.
Does that ghost/freedos thingy delete partition+format my hdd ?
Never mind, I found the solution for the Greek Language,
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=109035
In fact With this link you can add any missing language.
Comodo firewall did not work on this XP.
Fan control was making so much FAN noise that I shutdown whole computer now :p
Gonna try AVG+Kerio on that XP.
I dint have time to check where i can uninstall fan control program.
Very good XP anyways, no useless HDD noises+ super fast on A150
Anyone who has been having trouble setting a different keyboard layout, I struggled for a couple of hours before I found solution.
Go to another PC that has the keyboard layout that you want and run “regedit” navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts
then scroll down through all the numbered keys until you find the one you want, right click and export it to a thumb drive, then take to you AAO and double click – go back into control panel then you should find the keyboard layout that you want
Hello, first thanks great xp:)
sorry if my questions are stupid but where i can find the sdd patch, i use 8gb system and i have a 8 sd card but i need to expance my C that sd card and i dont find the update of that. sorry my poor english. and second question where i can update my system becouse my update does not work. Thanks
Great job Ron. I did not experience such fast performance since the times when switched from DOS to Windows.
Could you please publish Bulgarian (phonetic) key board layout. My other HP laptop is with Vista and I have nowhere to take it from.
By the way my WLAN did not worked with XP. Not only with yours but with any. Hence I replaced it by Broadcom WLAN module taken from a burned out laptop and installed corresponding driver. Now performance is great. thanks once again.
Two more questions:
There is one Foxit PDF reader that does not want to start – looking for some CD. How to correct?
How to put desktop shortcut in quick lunch toolbar? It is missing there.
Hi.. Ron’s I need pdf printer. build in pdf printer not working.
I am try install do pdf or pdf campro but error why..?
any solution ? thx for all.
Dear Ron,
I could not install AVG antivirus v8.5.
I is giving me Unsupported windows version.
How to do it?. if not possible to install AVG which antivirus is compatible?
Many thanks in advance.
How can I get Ron’s Tiny XP program since the link to get it on this page is no good.
http://aspireonesoftware.wordpress.com/2008/09/30/rons-image/
I also hope it can be down loaded as a zip file and not a Torrent or RAR file since I can only find it on this page as a Torrent and can’t figure out how to open it.
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4670099/Ron_s_TinyXP_image_for_Aspire_One
Even after I down loaded and tried with BitTorrent
http://www.bittorrent.com/
If possible a set by step on how to install it would be perfect if one is available please post details.
Kuwait:
Have you read through the posts? I mean ALL of them? If not, do so now. Ron (and others) have gracefully shared their experience with “compatible” anti-virus software.
Joe Foe:
The answers are: You can’t. Ron has discontinued his support of Tiny XP
If you find it on Pirate Bay and download it you can’t open it or do anything with it until it’s 100% downloaded. Try opening or extracting it prior to that will result in…nothing!
You don’t think Ron’s step-by-step guide at the very top of this post was detailed enough???
Han Derre
Hello!
I cant change the drive letter to c: in step 16, or any other letter what so ever.
What am I doing wrong?
//GJi
I had read all above posts. Unfortunately it is not clear which antivirus programs work with TinyXP and which not. So several of them tried and here is the result:
AVG – Does not install – giving error: unsupported versions of windows
AVIRA – installation is finishing with XP blue screen (critical error), fortunately program is removing well.
NOD32 work well but is paid. You may use it for some trial period for free.
AVAST – works well and is free. Need registration which I still did not received even applied for it 2 times. Will wait.
Hi All,
Ron – havent installed your build yet but thanks so much in advance – sounds awesome.
I havent seen any posts saying that this will work with a vodafone 3g (Huwaei E220) modem – just some people reporting problems.
Has anyone got this build to work with a Huwaei E220?
Many people have installed Avira free-edition with no problems. I’ve installed it on 4 machines.
Kuwait: Please read post #262 and #264 *sigh*
scote: thank you, this solved my problem. now its running perfectly, with the icelandic keyboard layout.
and it was so simple it was weird why i hadn’t stumbled on this solution before.
I recomend that everyone with a keyboard layout problems look at post 631, there you have a simple solution to this issue.
Hörður S. Dan.
Hi, thanks for this its awesome, was ready to sell my AAO as linpus was no good for me as i couldnt connect to my uni network despite weeks of trying.
Anyhow just one question if anyone can help, im trying to install 4od (Channel 4s video on demand service) but to install it you must have Internet Explorer 5.5 or above installed. As no internet explorer will install does anyone have any suggestions?
Again thanks alot,
Oli
Hello!
I cant use the Huawei e220 on TinyXP!
I see some ppl have problems, i am 1 off them.
Do you ppl know some soluson off this?
I wont that TinyXP work on AA1!!
Norwegian Boy
Han Derre: Posts #262 and #264 noted. Both Kingsoft and NOD32 are paid. Kingsoft give 6 months trial which is acceptable. However I installed AVAST, registered, free a works well.
System restore in TinyXP is removed. Hence is a good idea to have some backup solution for your system.
it is easy to do. Download HP USB flash format tool from here:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/utility/usbkey/usbmemkeyboot.zip
Download Win98 system files (which sre actually DOS 7) from here:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/utility/usbkey/win98boot.zip
and unpack in some empty directory
Insert USB flash memory with 4 or 8 GB capacity and format it with HP USB flash format tool. Set the following settings:
FAT32, check “quick format” and “create a DOS startup disk” and specify the path where WIN98 system files are stored.
After formating you should copy ghost.exe in the main directory of flash drive and create directory with name STORAGE.
The difference with Ron[nl] flash drive is that on FAT32 formatted drive you may store files with size higher than 2GB.
Now you may use ghost.exe to make backup image files of your SSD disk and record them on the flash drive. After that you may store them to your desktop computer and free space on the flash drive for the next image backup. Restoring if necessary can be done by same ghost.exe
Remark: This can not backup files from extension memory card due to ghost does not see it without driver.
@ NorwayBoy…learn to read and search…look in post 568
Dear Ron[nl]
Would you please so kind to publish Bulgarian Phonetic keyboard?
Thank you in advance.
Ron [nl]:

But maby i do somthing wrong… !?

Thanx Thanx Ron
Can you post an update for the belgian period keyboard?
Cheers
When ru upl tinyvista for aspire one 110?
I can’t get by
16) type “c:” then [ENTER] (c: is the drive letter from the USB stick)
Got any ideas? when I write C: = Bad commando or filename :S
hi, has anyone installed this on a acer aspire one AOA110 model?
guys i tried to use avira…and its works fine, its free
first when instalation end it makes a blue screen and than restart the AAO, try to update the avira….its looks promising
no lags on tiny xp
I can’t seem to install the Samsung ML-3051ND Printer Driver on the TinyXP running on AAO.
I keep getting message: “cannot install printer driver. Please use correct version” even though I’ve verified it is indeed the XP version.
Ron,
whats the status of your development for the tiny vista?
Try using B instead of C drive. Worked for me.
Vista will never be done by me!…have tried TinyVista (even on FAT32)…but 1) disliked it 2) its way to slow on the SSD.
After XP my next OS will be Windows 7, I run thaton an other system and looks far more promising than Vista. Remember Windows 98 Millenium? Well imho Vista belongs to that category of OSes that should have never seen the living daylights
Ok Ron, im looking forward to your release of windows 7.1 for Acer one whit ssd memory.
Keep up the good work.
ron…how can i change windows default language…i found it default on deutch….
sorry nubie…
start -> control panel -> language/regional settings
Ron [nl]
hehehehe…..thx a lot ron…..:)
hello,
i have a request, would you be able to make a tinyvista ghost image…if you would that would be fantastic……………………………….. if not how do i do it?
From a “fresh” ron’s install I install .net framework 3.5sp1 (full install) and then try installing ie7 and I get “internet explorer installation did not complete” – anyone any ideas?
Solved it following posts 510 / 515
Got the DLL’s from dlldump.com
- put them in c:\windows\system32
registered them by double-clicking on them in explorer
just installed rons tiny xp but now my netbook doesnt seem to recognize the battery, as soon as i remove the a/c adapter it turns off… anyone who knows a fix for this?
It doesnt matter what I do seems to be able to get the windows updates working. I have Bios3109, IE addon in Firefox plus windows uodate iin Firefox. And I tried to get every advice you had to solve that wu problems. I am stuck here with a Genuine Validation Tool failure all the time,
What else is there to do to keep the updated working?
Please, help, I will appreciate.
I dont think I have expressed my problem right in my last post so I will make a second attempt to express it more clearly.
I am unable to run windows update with my Tiny XP. I have Firefox with windows update installed and I have the IE Tab available for Firefox . I also have Bios3109 which is recommended by you. All this wont help me succeed at running windows update and I even tried installing IE 7 and try to update from inside Internet Explorer but I always end up with the same results :
1-Software Upgrade for some Windows Components Required
then
2-Some Updates were not installed
-Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
-Update for Windows XP (KB898461)
And this is it, end of the line for me all the time.
So, I dont know what I do wrong, what I miss but I have been looking tru the posts here to see if I didnt miss a clue of yours or others but I am really at the end of my rope with this issue.
Would you help me please! Thank you.
Dan
@danico55 I have the same problem – not come up with a solution.
Has anyone been able to install Sun’s Virtualbox? I fixed a .net error #2203, but now it just gives a general can’t install error.
@danico/foxyloxy
I had this problem for a long time. Can anyone help pls. I want to update to windows media player 11, but it doesnt validate.
Thx
lil
See post 397 for alternative ways to get updates
Simply thanks…this rocks. Brought a limp linpus pite aa1 to life. Thank you so much…simples!
Rog
has anyone had a problem with the battery sign disappearing
? my acer doesnt recognise the battery anymore, theres only an image of the ac, and when i take it off the charge. it still works as the battery would, but simply states on ac power. really problematic because theres no warning before it shuts down (im guessing due to the battery going flat). any help would be appreciated.
@Acer098……SIGH…..read the posts….it was solved as one of the 1st problems in XP on the AAO….its a matter of placing the right DLL and reinstall this one in system. It’s all in the post with the link to download the DLL.
I saw your post about it on the forum as well WEEKS ago! and still not solved?…..read and find yourself!!!
PS. learn how to use search.
thanks. fixed the prob by unisntalling the patch from a1ct1. dont think this is a repost but does anyone know what the max temp the aa0 can handle, as sometimes mine hits 80`C. Also, at what temp is it best to start, best to run at as well? i couldnt see a post answering this q, only posts asking if a certain temp is okay (though havent seen anything higher than 80)
Hi Ron!
Is there any way to confirm which version of your TinyXP ghost image it is that I have? The image that I’ve downloaded (TINYXPAAO.GHO) has a filesize of 486,211 Kb and a timestamp of 9/26/2008 9:53am. Can you confirm whether this is Rev02 or Rev09? I’m a bit unsure, because I’ve also seen other links to Rev09 with an approximate filesize of 699 Mb.
Also, is it still necessary for me to format my SDD first to FAT32 (since it is currently in NTFS format) before I proceed with the the rest of the instructions you outlined? Or will this already be automatically taken cared of when the ghost image is copied onto my SSD?
Thanks in advance for any replies! From what information and feedback I’ve gathered across the Internet, you’ve clearly helped so many people maximize the use and enjoyment of their AA1. All the best, and more power to you!
Many thanks for clarifying that up, Ron.
I wasn’t sure at first whether your reply to David at post #30 meant that you released only one version (Rev09).
Anyway, thanks again and more power to you!
whoa, i cant thank you enough for making this so easy!
it worked perfectly!
Groet uit Rotterdam ^^
What happened to the ‘performace xp’ blog Ron? Did you stop working on it?
thank you very much Ron.
Thank you very much for taking the time to put this pack together.
However, I just can’t download it.
I live in the country and am stuck with dialup. Can someone make my day and chop it into dialup-friendly 40Mb pieces? It will take me a few days, but at least I’ll have it then.
Cheers,
Sven

The A110 is working so much better and thats all thanks in the main to your tutorial and links.
Big learning curve but the while linux lite was a little too much to take in, I am a mac boy at heart, but xp is pretty good on my little machine
Hi gyus I’m from Greece, what about if i try to do that with external ( slim ) dvd rom.
Have i any issues during the installation.
I try a lot to find something like this ( Tiny XP ) for my acer asprise.
hi ron, can i use this image on other notebook (not acer one type)??
Hi Ron,
I have been using Ron’s TinyXP for a while now and it is excellent just received a A Windows Validation notification stating, the background has turned black and it says “You may be a victim of software counterfeiting”. Cannot understand it my Windows autoupdate is switched off. But I did do an update through Firefox a while back.
Will I need to reload TinyXP and will it happen again? Is there a way of avoiding it? Thank you for any help. Myyrh
One more way to do bootable Flash disk with Ghost and Ron’s image file:
1)Download from here and unzip in an empty directory Windows 98 start up disk files:
http://www.allbootdisks.com/disk_contents/download/98.html
2)Download and install HP USB Disk storage Format Tool (SP27608):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/453ec3/n/SP27608_exe
3)Start it and
-chose your USB flash drive
-chose FAT32
-tick Quick Format if necessary
-tick Crate DOS start up disk
-tick Using DOS system files located at:
-point to the directory in which you have stored the Windows 98 files.
-push Start
You have dos formatted flash drive.
Now copy on it Ghost program and Ron’s Tiny XP image file.
You are ready for installation on Acer.
Ron’s Tiny XP is very fast indeed. It is even faster than big laptop with hard drive and 3GB memory.
However it will become more faster if you install Flashpoint driver from here:
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~hkim362/project/flashpoint.html
Works like magic.
I know TinyXP is in english version.
However, is it any chance for me to read and write in chinese?
I have try the setting in Regional and Language Option but without positive result.
Hey friends, Still running the AAO with windows and it is absolutely chocka with software yet still stable. I seem to have lost my fan control so I will reinstall soon. I purchased an external dvd burner and now use nero 8 without trouble. VLC for video media. All in all a superb useable unit.
Ron[nl] you are a hero!!!!!!!!!
Only problem I have is when intalling things like itunes etc the menus and text boxes in the installer and my date in the lower right corner are all in german or dutch or something similar whilst the unit is english with english keyboard layout etc. Have I forgotten to change something?
anyone help me for install remote desktop?
I was try install, error
Great job! Everything works perfectly! Just wondering whether it is possible to get a service called BITS working and a support for the Latvian language.
installed fine, i just wanted to thank you for your hard work, also your instructions work just fine but what if the aspire is pre-installed with linux like mine? i have searched the net, there are countless guides that will install xp from usb, but they all assume access to a windows pc to prepare the usb stick, or rely on windows software, so if your acer has linux and you want to give it a go, follow this guide but install unetbootin for linux ( might need p7zip ) then take it from the guide.
Hi Dear Ron, I can’t download TinyXP, the torrents and link no work, please send me a link or a e-mail with your Tiny in italian, I have aspire one AOA110w, thank you very much.
PROBLEM: ive recently installed this on my aspire one, it works great but the bootup time takes over 3 minutes!!! this surely cant be normal can it? im running it on 512mb. can someone PLEASE let me know why its so slow? Do i need to install a patch or something?
normally boot time takes max 30 sec…..must have been something you’ve installed afterwards
Got everything installed and running, but the battery or AC power icon never shows, even after using the reg file. The batt.dll file is present and registering it throws up an error that the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
Since I have a ZQ5 model with a later BIOS, no fan control software works and now the fan seems to run faster than ever. The version of XP that came with the computer seemed to keep the fan very quiet already. I currently have no fan control software installed.
It would really help updating the blog at the very top with the latest information and solutions to current problems. This would mean fewer people would post, asking for help and Ron would have to tell fewer people to “do a search.” It’s difficult and inefficient to search when, combined, there are thousands of posts on the forum and blog.
Other than these small issues, I’m genuinely grateful for the work put into this project.
the only program ive installed is CA Internet Security,it cud be that.
Also is there any way of updating to windows media player 11?
Thanks
Please Dear Ron, I need you your help, I can’t download TinyXP, the torrents and the link no work, please send me a link or a e-mail with your Tiny in italian, I have aspire one AOA110w, my windows original is very slow, thank you very much.
>CHEZ
, if you want I can arrange to send you the TinyXP by using my Windows Live SkyDrive as a favor to a fellow AAO but I dont think Ron has made an Italian version of his TinyXP.
And I would believe Ron is a busy fellow that wont reply to all the request for downloads of his program.
>DAN
I have downloaded WMP 11 but I had to do it manually by using Windows Update Downloader (See Post 397) It is installed but I havent run it yet.
Ok, Daniel Comtois, the language is not problem, please send me to: rrussoaracelys@hotmail.com, thank you.
CHEY
I have sent you via Hotmail the torrent file at 38Kb at the address you gave me in your email. If you dont get it in few days, let me know here. I sent you also in a separate email a Ghost Image rar file of 3Mb. The program itself once decompressed is 479Mb. So no can do by Hotmail which limits attachments to 10 Mb (free version) and SkyDrive which limiits upload to 50Mb file
I have installed TinyXP some time ago so I dont remember well how I did it and which file or websites I used. You got the 2 files that I could send you by Hotmail. I hope you will be able to get the whole McCoy with that.
Ron,
Thanks for all the effort you’ve done, the tiny works great.
Is it possible to m
A search on pirate bay for aspire one will get you Rons image
>Daniel Comtois
ive downloaded the windows media player exe file, tried to run it but needs validation. how did u manage to install it in the end?
>Dan
You downloaded it from where? Me, I have downloaded it from this site :
http://www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com/UpdateLists.aspx
which is NOT an official Microsoft Windows Update site but an alternate site.
Hi, Dan or Ron, this file can’t open, how I can do !!!!! I want to install TINYxp, help, help please, where are the link (no torrent) cause is freezed, always waiting !!! help me please.
>Chey
I have sent you several files so which one are you talking about. I am still working on it. I am looking to send you something foolproof that will work first try. I havent forgotten you. But I dont know why you cant open files I sent you. These are the same files I have used to install my TinyXP. No magic about it
>Chez
If nothing works, we will arrange something with Windows Live SkyDrive. I will split the torrent file of 469Mb under a series of split 50Mb limit files and upload to my SkyDrive . It will be up to you to download it from there. I will send you the program to join the split files HJ Split. OK?
just a couple of questions…
do i actually need antivirus of antispyware as this is not official? my antispyware has not found anything when using tinyxp compared to my other laptop which regulary found some.
Aso, every time i acces a new site, firefox keeps asking to “confirm setting cookie”. its getting really tedious, is ther any way of turning it off?
> RON
In Ulimited Downloads site, I saw a TinyXP Rev10. Is it an XP related to you? Is it the TinyXP with SP3 integrated in it, what you have been working on after Rev09 if I am not mistaken?
ok Daniel, I ‘m waiting thanks a lot!
> CHEY
Ok, I will start working on it and will let you know when it is ready to download
> CHEY
A link has been sent to your email address (the first one you gave me, the Hotmail one) from my SkyDrive Public folder. So you can share my folder. Also included is the spli/join file program. It is a simple easy program to use. The splitting of the Ghost Image has given 10 files of 48 Mb each. SkyDrive doesnt allow upload of higher than 50 Mb file at a time. If anything else, let me know. Good Luck
How much memory (SSD space) does this OS take?
Hi Daniel:
Finallly, thanks for all the effort you’ve done, the tiny works great, is faster, thank you very much.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>CHEY
I am glad we could finally make it work.
Does anybody have an hardware issue with the AAO card readers? It wont detect the inserted media card, it wont event detect the card readers. I have tried to install the driver available on Acer website but still wont work.
Also, the BackUp program doesnt work either. Everytime I try, I get “Backup Failed” message.
Help if you can, please
Hi, just got myself acer aspire one and installed Ron’s TinyXp, and it’s brilliant! Thanks Ron ![]()
All is working good, but only one problem, keyboard layout. I’m from Estonia and i didn’t find from those posts here any help for my problem. So, can anyone please give me some tips or how to get Estonian keyboard layout to my windows XP?
Thanks.
Got it working, i used files what where above, edited .reg file and found KBDEST.dll file from xp disk. If anyone is intrested in that layout, feel free to email me.
the acer aspire one 110 support memory card SDHC ?
the acer aspire one 110 support memory card SDHC ?
Hi everyone!
Has anyone tried watching Internet TV with Ron’s image?
I have the AOA 110 model with XP installed, and before switching to TinyXP was able to watch Internet TV with different programs, all of which use Windows Media Player.
Now I get the error “Class not registered” or crashes while using various programs that used to work.
Also, the battery/AC meter is gone and the solutions proposed here didn’t work. Any tips?
Cheers,
Daniel
Daniel Comtois – I have never had problems. Have you tried putting an SD card into a separate USB card reader? If this works, you could possibly rule out a software error within Windows itself. Make sure you try different SD cards as some could be incompatible.
z3ca – The Acer Aspire One supports the latest SDHC cards, yes.
< Daniel Boll
I dont have a different SD nor a different card reader, I have one SD and one xD cards and both wont work in the card reader of the AAO. The card reader show up undetected in Hardware List but installing the driver wont work (the one from Acer site). The SD card will work with a SD card/USB adaptor. So your guess is good as mine.
MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!
I have crashed my AAO really bad last nite. It wont restart. Windows restart but never complete the reboot and hang in the blue start screen. I guess a reformat is in order but the thing is I cant reboot from the USB drive. I have changed the boot sequence to go the USB stick first but it is always the corrupted Windows version that start booting. I have all my TinyXP files on my USB that have been working at my first install.
So what gives???
@ Daniel…you tried to boot pressing F8…in the list there is an option to boot in “Last good working Windows XP Boot” or something. That sometimes will solve he problem.
Further is your USB stick “problem” not clear for me whats wrong.
As last resort you can try to look for the USB version of the BartPE Boot CD with the files to solve the windows boot problem.
Maybe you can also make clear what you installed/changed as last in TinyXP before this problem started.
I forgot to mention that I have made my USB stick bootable with HP Boot USB utility. Since last nite, I have been able to reinstall from uSB stick but I still have the same problem. It wont boot up completely but XP will stop at the blue screen (Welcome screen) and will never make it to the end.
What caused my crash. I have Zone Alarm Extreme and PC Tune Up Pro. When you run PC Tune UP, there is a bug in Zone Alarm that when PC Tune Up restart the puter, Windows never finish “saving settings”. So I shutdown the PC by the kill switch and it never restarted again fully.
> Ron
I have tried every option in F8 and nothing works. How do I format this corrupted XP and reinstall from scratch?
I forgot to mention that before shutdown or after reboot, I had a message that I had a registry file that was corrupted but was replaced in the log, something like that. I have a feeling I have a corrupted XP that wont let me do anything else until I format it completely.
@Daniel…I think your boot.ini is corrupt.
To install the image agian…just do as 1st time and your SSD/HDD will be formatted. After putting image again as written in the manual will do the job.
BTW…the best Anti virus/spam is imho ESET NOD32 it runs for months now and it is really light on the resources, plus laptop is still clean as a “Virgin”
Always be carefull with those PC tuners, registry cleaners and so on. If you use them make a backup from your registry to be sure.
PC Tune Up made a back-up alright. But how good is it to have one if the system wont boot and get access to it? Even with last known working configuration, I still cant get rebooted.
I will give it another shot at reinstalling from SSD but so far, it hasnt taken care of the reboot problem. It seems that somehow the old version of Windows stay on and it laways boot to that version.
Happy to say that I have succeeded at reinstalling TinyXP and I am smiling again! My mistake was that I was jumping Instructions 01 to 10 and I was trying to start from Instruction 11 for the reinstall.
just try new Windows XP Professional SP3 AAO Edition here:
aceraspireonexp.blogspot.com
>aceraspireonexp
Really nice except you have no support. The comment link that will give support will take you nowhere and doesnt work! How do you extract an iso to a USB stick and is your iso image bootable???
I will keep my TinyXP instead of risking going to worst.
Hi Ron, installed tinyxp yesterday. All was well, today I got rid of the camera on the desktop and got my battery levels back as per this blog. I tried to turn on my aspire one tonight and I can’t get it to boot!! NTFAILURE then it tries again and keeps looping. What can I do mate?
cheers
westo
@Westo….didnt hear b4 of that problem…..I know however that some bios versions give problems with the AA1.
You installed it n the SSD? Did you converted the FAT32 to NTFS after instal?
Ron, I have the 120gb version. 512 ram. i did not convert fat 32 to ntfs. Should I have ? It was all working fine, until I made the 2 changes I said. could this be anything to do with it.??
westo
Ron,
I have a AOA 110-aw is there also a tiny xp for??? So yes can/ will you help me…..
greetz Dennis
re above….have reinstalled it, seems ok again. Will do things one at a time, until there is a reacurrence (hopefully not)
cheers
westo
No it should be on FAT32…….seems the registry thingy you did was the cause…..take step by step to change the OS and you will be more in control…..especially the registry is a dangerous part if you not knowing what you’re doing…be carefull
Hi Ron. How can i install GREEK in your tinyXP? i try via windows update but i dont unterstand a lot of things. Thanks
Also i want to ask if 62C of cpu and 65C of fan just have msn open and a video in youtube is too much
Ron,
just a simple inquiry. Will Magic Jack work on your Tiny XP?
Thanks.
Hi King Ron, Trying to get the UK keyboard. I have got the Mozilla add ons of Windows update. I have updated. But I still can’t seem to be able to select the keyboard.Did I do something wrong or miss something out??
cheers

all fixed!!!
LINK DOWN – Deleted file by terms of violation …
hey ron. thanks for this tinyxp program. this works great.
like some of the others here, i have the 3 sec freeze thing, but i will wait for ver 2 …- i can live with 3 sec freeze ; hated that linpus program!!
just wondering, why is the green display thing when i hit
Fn + arrow keys
or Fn +F8
disabled?
i rmbred when i used linpus, i could control the volume and contrast and seee the level of the settings on the monitor. now i can control the volume and contrast but, i cannot see the level.
pls advise.
thanks in advance
Installed in a AOA-110, run 10/10… searching for a good antivirus…
@Ayl….the 3 sec freeze rarely happened to others as wel. After they reinstalled the image it was solved…the next steps they took was installing/changing software one by one to find what was making that 3 sec freeze…It shouldn’t do that!
It’s correct you do not see the levels when adjusting the sound or brightness.
@hellnano….The only antivirus I run already for 6 months (always hated that stuff for slowing my machine down to much) is ESET NOD32…..it is easy on the resources and really good protection.
Hi Ron
My problem is that when I boot off the usb and try to install freedos to HDD on a Acer ZG5 I get the error “Thre is no CDROM, or wrong CDROM!”. I am booting off a Intenso 2 GB USB. Thanks in advance.
@fred…….you dont install freedos to hdd!…install on the usbstick to make it possible to boot the stick and run Ghost.exe under freedos….after ghost is started you put the image on your system (hdd)
I had been using BIOS 3305 and i had ocasionally some slow downs so i downgraded to 3114 and got much better… BUT then i tried 3109 that Ron uploaded and its FANTASTIC!!! GREAT!!!
Thanks again Ron!
Hi Ron. Are u gonna release any newer version? i have some problems with this one. Mozila firefox suddenly close with no reason. And sometimes pc shutdown. No restart.Shutdown.
@Tasos….when you use a new Bios and fancontrol those shutdowns will happen.
@Macielle…bios 3109 still rocks.
I have the latest BIOS from acer webside. How can i downgrade the version and when can i find the older one? I use the pre-install fancontrol. Can i remove it?
@Tasos, only desinstall the aa1 fan control, and problem solved.
I wont have any problem if i unistall it? Too high temp or something like this? thanks for the answers
@Tasos……post 35 gives you the link to download the bios 3109
Hello Ron [nl]
I’m thinking about doing my own XP
can you tell the tweaks you have in your version?
your version is fantastic but it is already outdated, and is not ready for Windows updates…
thanks for all
Hello all! It seems some of you were lucky and able to install IE. I tried all the suggestions like registering the dlls described in 510 and 515 and setting BITs to automatic but whenever I try to install IE7 or IE8 I get a message saying “Internet Explorer Installation did not complete” and then prompting me to restart. Any ideas? thanks a lot!
By the way, I installed Framework 3.5.
u da best ron!!!
had no problemo with ur image, run perfect until now….hehehhee
Thank you very much.
P.D:
¿Is posible to make that the storage Expansion can work too in windows XP (or this TinyXP) ? (But, work like expasion of C:, not like other card just).
THX,
Jose
is there a way of installing the UK (United Kingdom) keyboard layout. I’ve tried but its still showing the US Internation version?!
link to files and way to install uk keyboard is in one of the posts.
to make the sdhc cardreader an additional harddrive you need to go to the process of installing the hitachi drivers, ther are a lot of posts of that in aspireoneuser forum
thanks for the reply, I installed the Windows Update add-on for Firefox and for some reason it won’t allow me to download any updates. I just keep getting failed when I click on download updates, so I guess i’ll just have to stick with the dodgy layout keyboard.
> Michael
With TinyXP you cannot get Windows Updates tru Microsoft, you have to get them manually by going to this link :
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/11/25/3-alternative-ways-to-get-windows-updates/
Note that the first method is outdated and no longer updated. The second one worked well for me. This is why you got those failed downloads. Good Luck
Thank you Daniel, appreciate it. It worked fine, but does anyone know which update I should download in order to fix my keyboard problem?
I have read the thread but i just can’t see………………..ive got the updates done and the keyboard is the same. hmpf.
I installed this windows but after 1 day it crashed, so i wanted tot reinstalled it. But when at the final stage you have to choose the image it doesn’t work any more. It stands still, so its recovering but it take about 10 min before you see something in the screen and than it stands still. Can anybody help me?
I’m trying to reinstall it after it crashed but it does not work
> Rive
Maybe you did the same mistake that I did after I had the same exact problem. Make sure you reinstall starting at Step 1, not Step 3 or 4 like I tried.
Hi Ron,
Looking forward to putting your Tiny XP on my AAO.
I have read this whole blog and downloaded all the files that I think I might need for this.
Hope all goes well.
By the way, all those who say they are having problems with windows update and mention WGA, you might want to google it (Who Gets the Advantage!!!!!).
Toodles
It is possible to use the standard Windows update service.
Copy qmgr.dll and qmgrprxy.dll from another XP and register them. (example: regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll)
Reboot your system, go to the services (services.msc) and start the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) service. (and set it to automatic via the properties)
It did the trick for me…
hi ron,
after reading your posts, i take it that it is best to downgrade BIOS before loading the tinyXP.
I have downloaded the bios u put on here but the read me file does not make sense to me. As flashing the BIOS wrong can wipe out my AAO completely, please could you explain how to do this properly. I have read the post and dont think there is anything there ( although reading well over 700 posts in 1 night, I may of missed something)
what i have is a batch file called ‘3109′, an app called ‘FLASHIT’, an FD file called ‘ZD5_3109.FD’ and the readme file.
I am a newbie to this so your best idiot guide would help.
Many thanks in advance
Dear Ron or (any one else),
I have downloaded the file(s) file piratebay and can very far with you manual. Around 50% of the image install it gives an error. “Corruption detected in the image file”.
I try to install the image on a AOA 110. Looking to comments above this shouldn’t be a problem.
Any one has a good download for me which I can get.
Thanks in advance.
hello
I have a small problem.
when I turn the AAO110 with the SDHC card inserted, it takes a long time to boot.
without the SDHC card, boots very fast.
some sujestion to this problem?
[...] [...]
Fantastic software, installed on my SSD AA1, as well as my friend’s Asus eeePC w/HD. Outlook is broken, as already noted; some files from IE are missing which are needed to function properly, I’m sure it could be fixed, but… no worries, as Tbird (and Lightning calendar) replace it perfectly.
Again, Thank You!!!
First of all, a huge thanks for all your work on this project Ron. Quick question: any info on ‘UninstallTool 1.6.6.exe’? It sends AntiVir into a panic, and gets a few positive results on VirusTotal (http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/b16ea9b784fcc6d7d69c1f68391505011887117495f688f331392a9548859d49-1246236957).
Expecting this to be a false positive, but would like some confirmation. Thanks in advance.
Thank you very much. It works like a charm! I spent 2 days trying to install xp using the multi_boot usb method and none of them work. It either said missing hal.dll or something wrong with he setup etc. Before my wireless was not working under the linpus and now it works wonderfully.
Thanks again.
I get through the process to :-
11) put the USB stick into the AAO (the image takes care of format the SSD correctly)
12) start the AAO and hit F2 or F12 and make the USB stick first in the boot sequence.
13) when the USB sticks boot choos “default” in the 1st screen.
14) next screen choose option 1:Install to harddisk using FreeDOS SETUP (default).
15) when after an error and beep you see A:\>
16) type “c:” then [ENTER] (c: is the drive letter from the USB stick)
but then when I imput c: it says invalid drive C: ????
can you tell me what I’m doing wrong?? please forgive me as I am a newbie
Ron,
Thank you for the file and the instructions – worked perfectly and I can’t believe how fast my AAO is running now!
Thanks again,
Tom
hi ron,
im at the decompressing the tinyXP. i got the error. “Question : 1808, Decompression error.” what do you think is wrong ? tnx
Hi ! Its impossible for me ti type c:in bios actually : is impossible. What am i doing wrong ?
Thank U
lcb , I had the same problem with “Invalid drive C:”, I tried another flash drive, and it worked.

Ron[nl]
Please help
Password of the rar files is Ron[nl]
you’re sure that there is no other password implemented by the person who uploaded the files were you downloaded them from?
Thanks Ron, I’m sure I typed that in but I copied your password from your post and it worked
I now feel like I can use my AAO, rather than it sitting on a shelf looking pretty.
I have a couple of questions:
1) Would Norton make AAO run on a go slow? This is what I use on my PC, I have kingsoft trial at mo but need something permanent. I already have a copy of norton but I don’t want my netbook to run at a snails pace. Any suggestions would be welcome.
2) When installing programmes I have to save exe files to desktop then install. Is this a consequence of using your image? If so I can live with it, Just wondered if there’s a way to enable the ‘run’ option rather than ’save’
Thanks again for the help and for taking the time to create such a great image.
1) I like ESET NOD32 best. I doesnt use a lot of resources of the pc and doesnt slow it down noticable.
2) just double click the exe file…worked for me
Tried this with my AAO and just before the end I have got a decompression error abort?? I clicked no & got application error 19230 Ghiost has detected corruption in the image file. Please perform an integrity check on the image.
Any ideas what I do next???
Paul
sorted cheers!
Hi. I have acer aspire one a110. I have bought ram (Crucial 1GB 667Mhz (CT12864AC667)) and the netbook doesn’t see it. I have v0.309 bios and your tiny xp. I think that aspire one support this ram.
@ paul how did you sort your problem re decompression error? i have the same error tnx
hi everyone, ive got this installed and then tried to connect my AAO to my lcd tv via VGA cable but doesnt seem to work, please help!
-just to let everyone know. I downloaded my copy from piratebay. tinyxp image 469mb.
-installation went incredibly smoothly with the instructions.
-I use zonealarm firewall basic and for antivirus, nod32.
-My major problem was the wifi, but that was solved by installing the files mentioned above.
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_one_150.html
-I downloaded the graphics VGA one aswell, realtek audio, wireless atheros and have no problem connecting AA1 to TV via SVGA cable (basic one bought from amazon). great quality.
So thank you so much. I was wondering if when the FINAL version windows 7 is released, Ron or someone can trim it down for us.
I installed the flashpoint driver for the ssd with ron’s TinyXp and now my aa1 work as a desktop machine, no more slow write to hard disk and no more slow access to programs…
try it …
cya
I’ve got an Acer Aspire One aswell!
I installed something called ‘xp performance edition’, it seems to be the same thing as tinyxp (stripped down version) but has sp3 included.
I also installed ‘Office2003-lite’ which is about 70Mb
Only problem I have is inserting video into ‘powerpoint’, because windows media player isn’t there, it doesn’t work.
Thanks for the Swedish keyboard layout pack, Ron! It works perfect!
Hi Ron! It works perfect, except that I cant log in to Facebook, it says that I need to enable the cookies, I have done this in Mozilla but without success, any good ideas?
Hi ron, just downloaded your xp from another source, however…
ive hit a problem when trying to formatt my pen drive…
on vista the options i get are:
1: NTFS
2: FAT32
3: exFAT
is exFAT just FAT ????
otherwise, how can i formatt it to FAT? cheers
nevermind i got it to work.
however.
what is recommended for the aaospeedfan settings?
fan on @ what temp
fan off @ what temp?
never used a speed control program before.
mike..
All with problems in 16 step
16) type “c:” then [ENTER] (c: is the drive letter from the USB stick)
but then when I imput c: it says invalid drive C: ????
Try with “b:” or “d:”
It worked to me
Hi Ron. The fan make a lot of noise all the time. It doesnt stop. Before your tiny xp i had another nlited xp and it didnt make noise at all. Can i do something for this?
I’ve had this working for a while now but am still having problems with Flash. Can’t play the animated ‘emoticons’ in MSN messenger, and Flash Slideshow Maker won’t run at all. Can anyone help? Is something to do with Flash turned off in this?
Hi. I have an Asus EEE (sorry folks) but Ron’s TinXP seems the perfect solution. That is, I can’t find a small XP I can install FROM a normal USB stick.
Every version has Manual Install removed (I dont have resources to Nlite one intact).
My question … Ron… where yours is optimized for AA1, will it harm my EEE ? will it waste resources on my unit? can I ignore the added drivers and install myown ?
(or sir, do you have a usb installable Tiny without drivers?)
THANK YOU for ANY HELP. And thanks for the devotion to a product – i couldnt get the AA1 here 8(
Hi, is there a new download link? All I can find is 2 torrents and both are running like a dog…
Also ,really basic question – do you have to format before you begin the whole process or will the booting from USB do all that for you?
Cheers
It was optimized for AA1, but the hardware is quite identical to your Asus so it should do well as you stated and no harm will be done.
Ghost wil do the format.
Thanks Ron !
So, there’s no conflict with the fan controls? I mean, would I have to do anything to control my fan in the eee ?

Hi Ron, Thanks for this, it’s a wonder!
I just have two issues still: no wifi (?) and no Swiss French keayboard layout.
Could you tell me what’s wrong with the wifi setting? I tried the wireless button, but it blinks once and then it’s gone again. On startup, I tried connecting, but it just kept on blinking, then I tried the cable connection, but then I lost completely the wireless option…system seems to recognize there is one (“Atheros”), but says not connected, firewalled…
And the Swiss French keyb layout, does not work either trhough update.
Otherwise, one of the best contributions to date for the AAO, Congrats!
(but if you could help me for the above two issues, it would be even better
)
Cheers,
Wow Ron! That was excellent. I converted my AAO from linux to XP effortlessly. I have no problems to report at this time. I had reviewed 3 other ways to to this but yours was by far the clearest and easiest. I got it from isohunt, and within 1 hour ( after getting a usb key) it was done .
I thank you for your great work. I hope you get everything you want!
Rolf in Canada!~
Hi Ron,
Forget about my wifi issue, it was linked to me not typing the rights password, since I was typing on a Swiss French keyboard, with US layout… ![]()
So, that leves me just with this swiss French keyboard layout issue. Anything you could do to help me?
Thanks a lot!
Swisschris
Hi Ron,
Just wanted to add some thanks for this mod for the AAO.
Installed it, runs faultlessly so far. Thanks a lot, turned my AAO into a much more useful machine. Thanks for your time
hi people ,
I managed 2 squese xp on a flash drive using uni boot. netbook was working ok 4 a good few weeks or so then black screen no hdd light power on fan spining some sound from hdd .so looking about on some forrems people saying need a new bios flash explan how 2 do it try it evry way poss but still no joy dont think the key bords working ….any 1 shed some light on this plz ?????
thax ……..
looks like a reflash to i.e. bios 3109 (the one I still use) will maybe help. I had the same prblem as you when I updated last year my bios to version 3114 and installed XP. After few weeks my AAO seemed tp be dead…no response at boot. After reflash my AAO came back to life.
There are e lot of posts about this issue and how to reflash at the forum mentioned on this blog….success
Can you provide check sums of your original distribution so that we may be sure that we are not getting a tampered download when we get it from another source?
I really need some H E L P !
I’m having some big problems installing this. When i come to step 16 i get “bad command or filename” no mather what i write.
I’ve tried everything from A: to Z: but nothing works! I have also tried a different usb stick, but with the same result.
What can i do to make it work? I’ve seen that i’m not alone with this problem but there doesn’t seem to be any solution?
